Wow what a triumph of marketing-speak. I have just got to incorporate some of that into my next report.

Basic digital applications were such a wonderfull assistance orriginally, then they went overboard with it at a cost easy money streams at a huge cost for the individual, maybe some day nobody has to work.

So it connects to the internet via a poncy interface?

Do millions of people need to do any of those things in their cars often enough that adding the facility to the car is necessary? Surely they would already have devices that can do such things anywhere they might be?

Sounds like ships

Watches were easy until they started to introduce "electronic aids" which beeped and buzzed and hooted their watch keeper distracting demands and notifications

I switched them all off

I have noticed that most new models of cars have a large screen sticking up on the dashboard, a feature that is ugly and being covered in Ikons,is likely to be a distraction to the driver. I have recently received an e mail from my local Ford dealership, inviting me to a preview of the Mk 9 Fiesta "with 12.6" flat screen" The mail has a photo of the dash showing this stiicking up,covered in Ikons Presumably the future is that these things will be a built in smart phone

It does depend on the implementation and interface and driver aids. As cars get more intelligent with lane keeping, speed management , obstacle and danger awareness then some driver load is removed. If effective voice recognition and read back is implemented, then there is no reason why access to some Internet functions should be any more distracting than drivers messing about with hunting up radio station or music sources.
At one time some 25+yrs ago I messed about in my old 200sx and installed all sorts of nonsense ambient lights and a full entertainment system that included digital and terrestrial TV, DVD etc. Whilst I admit to having had TV shows running while driving, I didn't look at the 4.5in screen - just used it to listen to the audio. It was handy during a 1-hour accident queue, though.
These days, I rarely have even a radio on when driving, which may be more distracting if one starts to think about 'stuff'

As for large car screens - the benefit is obvious with rear and side camera displays and less beneficial with unnecessary menus for car functions that used to be on ergonomically easy buttons

Of course they don’t … That was the point of my starting this thread.

I was objecting to the introduction of the system.

Only just solved electric windows in car. Last night while driving with a mate, he remarked "Clock on dash seems to be an hour fast" My reply?, Yep, can't be bothered to get owners manual out again or take an advanced computer course on how to change it, and in a couple of months it's going to be right again.

Even on a non LCD dash, the plethora of warning lights addles the brain cells.

Regards Ian.

For ADY 1 , google Baltic Ace , did they both switch them off ?

Or was it the wind farm flashing lights ?

We were twenty miles away that night.

Well I suppose watching Netflix or a bit of online shopping gives you something to do in your autonomous car to pass the time getting from A to Bdevil

Further to my "Clock" comment, just read on another forum, a "Bug" is turning the clocks on Honda Acuras back to 2002.

Ahh, the joys of electronics and wifi in cars.

Regards Ian.

Beginning to sound like another excuse for not thinking about what you are doing, or looking where you are going!

In the days without synchromesh, or power steering and indifferent brakes, such activities were vital.

Alexa,

Activate the teleport module to take the turkey twizzlers directly from freezer to garbage grinder.

Save me the trouble of being sick.
