![]() 23121 forum posts 1360 photos | Having suffered some serious cardiac problems in recent years, I try to walk at least three miles every day ... No problem doing that, except that in the currently prevailing weather my finger joints get excruciatingly cold. ... Mostly down to severe Arthritis and mild Diabetes, I think. I am currently using a pair of Regatta waterproof gauntlets, with a thin pair of goatskin gloves inside; and walking with my hands in my pockets ... but my hands are still cold. Can anyone recommend some really warm gloves ? ... I am wondering if there is anything electrically heated, that might run off a pair of [say] 4,000mAh USB ‘power banks’ All serious suggestions welcome ... and the silly ones will be tolerated. And if you can get one on the back of your neck as well, you'd be surprised what a difference it makes. And a word of warning - don't walk around with your hands in your pockets, father-in-law has had a couple of nasty falls that way. Stay safe. Rob Just found this site which may be useful for ideas (usual disclaimer, etc.) |

![]() 23121 forum posts 1360 photos | Thanks for all the replies and wise advice so far ... Must admit that I have never tried the one-shot heat packs, but have found the re-useable [crystallising gel] ones totally inadequate. The Keis heated under-gloves look very promising, but I would need to try them for fit, as my thumbs are unusually long. MichaelG. |

Have you tried silk inner gloves as used by skiers? . Not recently ... I used to wear them under mitts for cold-weather motorcycling, but the present problem is orders of magnitude worse than it was then. Most of the hand is cold, but the top joint on each middle finger is the real problem. ... if I could warm that specific area, the rest might be bearable. Thanks for the reminder though. MichaelG. . Edit: __ please excuse the scruffy background, but this is what my arthritic finger joints look like ... getting on for twice the height they were: Edited By Michael Gilligan on 14/02/2021 16:52:08 |

![]() 464 forum posts 72 photos | For cycling in this weather I use "lobster" gloves, 3 fingered gloves/mittens. My favoured make are Crane form Aldi, inner layer silk type material then several other layers. They work remarkably well, rode down a steep hill this morning, nudging 50mph, hands stayed warm, everything else cooled down! "Hot hands" chemical things work well, don't put them next to skin though, can get a bit uncomfortable. John |

859 forum posts 268 photos | I (and indeed, Mrs D.) work outside all year round, and having tried just about every hi-tech material known to man, still have never found anything better than good ol' natural wool, as long as one can keep the wind off with some outer layer. Having poor circulation myself, I find the modern fashion for tight-ish cuffs and sleeves pure murder for slowing circulation - I have been known to take a pocket-knife to brand new workwear, or to make three or four attempts at adjusting the order of 'layers' just to make sure there are no restrictions - an unfortunate crease next to an armpit or suchlike really can mean a day of unnecessary misery.. ..with sympathy.. |

19 forum posts | Sheepskin mittens. Not elegant or even pretty, but the best in my experience. Don’t go for gloves with fingers in as they loose too much heat. Sheepskin is pretty wind resistant which most man made materials aren’t, and keeps the heat in. Francis |

![]() 3676 forum posts 82 photos | There seem to be various hand warmers available for outdoor pursuits, chemical, fuel and electric. I don’t have personal experience to endorse any. Being a wise man Michael you know walking with you hands in your pockets is not a good idea although it might be a choice of a broken wrist or broken nose though and both likely to hurt. Mike |
