Trolleys at Lidl/Aldi

We often seem to be discussing the latest bargain tool at Lidl and Aldi and I must admit that sometimes the goods on offer are not easy to leave on the shelf, although my wife thinks they should be chained down to prevent them jumping in to our trolley!

Ah, Trolleys! A few months ago all the trolleys at our local Lidl were replaced with new although most of the old trolleys had never been used and as we are in a coastal town about 90% of them were totally rusted. I am told that a lot of them had to be lifted out as the wheels were seized!

I counted the new trolleys and found 104. Assuming that it was calculated at 1 person per trolley and a quick check on the size of a trolley and person against the free space in the aisles meant that about 95% of the available floor space would be occupied! I think that is probably how they worked out how many trolleys they should order when they build or re-equip a store.

If they thought about it they could probably just buy 25% of the trolleys and save a bit of money and sell their tools even cheaper although that might not go down too well with the ladies!

It could be a useful exercise in statistics to note two sizes of trolleys and percentage time spent at checkout and wheeling to car against the size and date of the store.

One store back in my old home town is so cramped that trolleys can hardly pass each other in the aisles so it stuck behind a dodderer it's a tedious chore to go round.

Or at least spray 2/3 of the number with Ensis, LPS3 or Rustillo so that they would be usable when the first part of the delivery had died.

A personal note that I am sure you have all experienced.

You are waiting for the other half most of the time so you find somewhere to stop with the trolley. Sods law immediately comes into play, as wherever you stop someone wants to be there. So you hop around the store looking for the best parking spot. Never to actually find it. Strange thing is I don't have a other half.

I think if I were in my 20s or 30s Lidl might be one of my favourite shops, but I'm beginning to find - despite an occasional inner struggle - that the goods do stay on the shelf. I keep finding they're selling a tool just a little bit better than something I already have - say a distinct percentage more power, or a feature I've had to learn some extra skill to do without - but that the advantage isn't quite enough to justify dumping something that does actually do the job even if with some difficulty.

That's what made me refurbish my drill press rather than lay out 60 for theirs.

My missus doesn't think they should be chained down - it's just that, whilst I'm chewing over the real value to my sort of activities of this tool or that, she's calmly piling toys and clothes for the grandkids into our trolley...

Ahhhh, the joys of supermarket shopping.

1. Some stupid b***h with a cell phone stuck in her ear, trolley parked in centre of aisle perusing something on the shelf.

2. "Friends" "double parked" recalling Holidays, gardening etc..

3. Screaming kids.

4. The NEW mini trolleys for kids to "help" with shopping.

5. Those who have to inspect EVERY Carrot, potato(e), Cabbage and Tomato(e) and then decide not to bother.

6. Those as in 1. at the checkout.

Quick dash on Thursday morning BEFORE the other wrinklies get in.

Why can't Lidl have some proper baskets instead of those mini-trolley big basket-on-wheels things.

Not a client of either Lidl or the other one, simple reason, it costs more to travel to get there than I could save!

I had to show an old lady how to drive one of the mini cart/trolleys when they first came out. You can push then, pull them or carry them.

My missus doesn't think they should be chained down - it's just that, whilst I'm chewing over the real value to my sort of activities of this tool or that, she's calmly piling toys and clothes for the grandkids into our trolley...

Funny that, my wife is the same, spend on our Grandson is likely to go exponential soon, ask if I can buy a tool and its what do you need that for

My Daughter and wife bought so many clothes for our first and only Grandchild he is going to have to stay one year old for another year
