The one on the left, the jaws are too bulky.

eBay for one 40 quid. Reputable dealer for tother 57 quid plus vat and postage.

So far we have no clear winner with folk opting for either.

They are both accurate but the fake does not have four digits after the decimal point on the imperial setting.

The fake is amazingly accurate in its detail but the signs are there.

Keep on guessing....

And I did mean fake not cake! C

Bloomington spell chucker!

"Which of the two above calipers is a cake"

This was sorted , legally, in a recent High Court decision, I believe.

Leave both exposed to the atmosphere for a number of days. If one becomes hard, that is a cake. If, however, one becomes soft, that is a biscuit. This decision was required to define whether Jaffa Cakes were cakes or biscuits for tax purposes. cheeky

The left one has the latest revision battery cover, the right one has the slightly recessed one of an older model, but the new AOS logo, so I would say the right one is fake. Also hard to tell from photo, but the screen looks a shade darker than I would expect.

Fake on the right. The curved green line that goes from the end of the scale to to above the 'Absolute' logo is too thick.

I think the fake's on the right because the battery cover looks a little sunken, like a cheap moulding.

It'd be interesting to know if an accuracy/repeatability test would find any significant difference between them.

I've found a cheap Aldi Workzone caliper is good enough for about 80+% of what I do, a M&W Value Line is OK for most of the rest, and I've needed my Mitutoyo tenths mic about twice in the last year.

You need an ANOVA gauge R & R test to determint repeatability - how I dont miss doing those!

No idea, but nice to see what a new one looks like and informs others of the differences to look for.

My Mitutoyo Digimatic is over 30 years old and still good!.

Wonder if the fake would last as long?.

One on left - thumb grab is not ergonomic compared to one on right?

I will take better photos in daylight as there are still some getting it wrong.
The one on the LEFT IS GENUINE. The one on the right is all wrong. The video.on YouTube detailing some of the errors is now out of date as the fakers watched it too and pulled their socks up.
The digital display changes of it's own accord when laid on the bench so I think it will end up in the bin.
Lesson learned.

Fake on the right, battery cover is 'wrong'

Having said that the IP67 rated silver coloured Mitutoyo calipers have in the past year or so changed the battery cover design from a posidriv screwdriver job on the rear to using a 2p piece on the front

Concerning Mitutoyo stuff, Is anything other than this particular caliper being faked? (and sold on ebay)
