I suppose it depends whether or not you count Long Eaton as part of Nottingham

.

Considereng that Long Eaton is currently in Derbyshire ... I would really rather not.

[that would only confuse matters]

If you read the whole Wikipedia article you'll see things are pretty much confused already!

Much like Birmingham and the Black Country which lies in three counties... or one, or perhaps none.

Of course they are, Neil ... Which is why, in common with the Ordnance Survey and other cartographers, I referenced the official 'centre' of each town, not some politically convenient extremity of the conurbation.

I think we best put this to bed now, before we spoil the spirit of the thread.

It was said that the women of Nottingham have the best breasts in the country….. When I was in my teens, I tried to check as many pairs as I could…….

In the greater Nottingham area, many people would deny any connection with the city. Both George Brough and I were born in Basford, which is most certainly not Nottingham, no matter how much the city council try to claim George. Me, they're not too bothered about.

Neil,

Don`t you mean Myford WERE in Beeston? When I lived in Melton Mowbray in the early 80`s Long Eaton, Chilwell & Beeston were all part of Nottingham.

To round off quite a productive weekend in the workshop I've just watched a Spitfire fly over the bungalow at about 600 feet; Merlin powered I think.

I came across this link to some superb pictures of Spitfires on the Electrotech forum. I thought it would be of interest to others.

Was outside today loading my trailer reading for a trip to Little Casterton Vintage working weekend tomorrow when the sound of a pair of radials passed overhead pulling the Bristol Blenheim along, he came from the east and disappeared over Bedford westward.

I'm surprised anything was flying today - even the ducks are walking here!

Better in Bedford than here then. This afternoon they were flying at the gliding club, but Cambridge were giving a cloud base of 800ft, nearer 600ft here. At least it means workshop time!

Just to add to the confusion, Long Eaton IS in Derbyshire but has a Nottinghamshire Postal Address and code!

Gentlemen,

Last weekend I spent a long weekend at the Goodwood Revival and part of the event involves several aircraft including a full size replica, including what appeared as an original engine, an Albatross, Avro Anson and a polished C47/DC3

.......and a polished C47/DC3

I recall a picture of a highly polished DC3 in the motoring section of the paper last week? Must have used one hell of a lot of Autosol tubes.

I used to go to work on a Dakota, RAE Bedford to RAE Farnborough, down on a Monday and back on a Friday. The air ferry mostly used Doves, but the Dakota was also used fairly frequently.

Saw a Catalina overhead at Romford today, heading south. Love the sound of those big radials.

A couple of days late, on the 16/9/16 (100 yrs after the Kiwis arrived on the Somme) a Bristol Scout (built in NZ by The Vintage Aviator Ltd., TVAL), flew over the Caterpillar Valley Cemetary, Longueval, France and dropped Poppy petals over the fields where 2000 NZ soldiers died 100 yrs ago.

There was supposed to be a TVAL Albertross, but it had a bit of a whoopsie landing a few days ago.

Have a look at the TVAL  Facebook site, and their web site, you might be there for an hour or so.

Saw the Canadian Lancaster flying around yesterday when visiting the Southern Ontario Model Engineers meet at the Pumphouse Museum in Hamilton, ON, Canada.

Also, a Tiger Moth, but the Lancaster always takes the cake!

(yes, I do have a photo of it, but not really that great a photo...)

Doesn't get much simpler than this. And you can even make your own engines:

Not your normal aircraft sound! Three Merlins. The Latest Mosquito rebuild has just flown overhead accompanied by a Spitfire. Unfortunately I was in my workshop and my camera was inside.Better luck the next time, as the glide path to Ardmore aerodrome is overhead.
