David Clark,

When you do find out who is responsible for Digital [back]issues; may I suggest you ask them to get in touch with The British Horological Institute for some advice.

The Horological Journal is available in PDF, to subscribers only, and the image quality is stunningly good. The file sizes are also realistic, typically around 4MB for an issue.

Their online viewer is also excellent.

I Feel sorry for those that only take the digital subscription to ME, despite it being in the shops today there is still no sign of it on the homepage or in the digital issues, I've had my paper copy of 4011 for almost a week now
 
Its quite a good issue as well, despite having put the wrong Fig 2 on Stew's elbow engine article.

Interesting reading all this but... nobody really was bothered when I reported that the
Gorgon ship engine (two issues) in Model engineer was missing.
 
I can't remember exactly the reply from Dave Clark but I think it was along the lines
that they (?) didn't have the PDF.
 
So what am I paying for a digital subscription for?
 
Left me in a bad mood since, so glad for the excuse to rant.

I must say that I am getting a bit p***ed off with the digital edition service (or lack of) .... I only take the digital version ... I have to email David nearly every issue (ME & MEW) to kick the people concerned ... I have written to the powers that be, but got no reply.
 
I'll be asking for compensation at renewal time ... like a free year as they are in breach of their terms. (and that's not even considering the print quality issues)
 
I think that both ME and MEW should be loaded on the Tuesday/Wednesday .. which will be the day that most paper subscribers get their issue ... then they would meet the advertised terms and conditions of “Access the latest issue as soon as it is published”.
 
They should know that they have to put the front cover, Index and Digital version up on 3 weeks out of 4 .. so they have no excuse.
 
Since the copies have to go to the printers in advance, so why can't they prepare them and even upload it but make it available on the day.
 
The continued delays, means that they are going to get more complaints, lose subscribers and even claims for free extensions to digital subscriptions.

13th of the 8th we were going to get the printing sorted out on MEW 180, still not done.
 
All we get from David is he doesn't know who's responsibility the web editions are, perhaps the subscriptions people should take this matter up as they are the people taking money under false pretences ?
 
Surely MHS doesn't have a staff of thousands where the odd department can hide away unnoticed ?
 
What amazes me is there are now hundreds of companies doing digital editions and none of these cock up like MHS does on virtually every edition. They would be better off getting Myfords to 'reorganise' it

I see now that all of the archive of both ME and MEW are now using the new digital reader.
I also note that we still do not have the long awaited (and promised) printing facility.
Also note that despite ME 4011 being available for several days now, this issue is still not available as a digital issue.
There have been many requests from subscribers, for these issues to be resolved.
Why is it that no-one seems to know who is responsible?
Why do MHS staff not respond to their advertised email address?
MHS surely must be in breach of advertising standards or something similar as they are clearly not giving access to the latest issue as soon as published, as ponted out by Steambuff.
I wonder just how long this thread will continue before someone at MHS finally take some responsibility for the abysmal services the purport to provide.

As regards the new digital reader, 179 still has the print icon, the rest do not have this print icon.
 
Come on MHS - get your act together - someone is working on these in the background does management know who ?

If you look at my thread MEW 180, you will see that I sent 5 emails to different senior management and did not have the courtesy of a single reply!

(David did reply to me as I BCC'd him)

Says something doesn't it

Thank you David and the ME MEW team for listening and responding……..

A positive step after being becalmed in a sea of negativity.

New we can get on with building the models and machinery we love; more succinctly “Makin stuff”. There is enough politics in the world outside. The workshop is a very special place, where your mind can soar and think about possibilities......... Power outages; and recently thought outages are a pain we can do without.

John Mc Unfortunately its only the cover pic on the homepage that is now upto date, still not available as a digital issue.
 
I think David or Diane can alter the homepage so looks like one of them has been working on a sunday thanks for that but the backroom boys/girls who do the digital issues only work weekdays when you can find them

Diane is away at a steam rally. I have been in hospital so I doubt it has been touched.
 
I have emailed the boss about digital issues.
Up till now I have asked the girl in the office to do it and it gets done eventually but eventually is not good enough.
 
I have requested that all digital issues are up by Wednesday AM prior to publication and also that we let the entire magazine be printed out.
We will see what happens.

I am not best pleased with the situation at the moment .. Its Monday evening and ME4411 which should have been loaded last week is still not available.
 
All emails to the powers that be go unanswered (Except those to David and Diane)

I was looking for all the digital issues with the Ayesha II articles and I noted that issue 4315 is not there.

Someone else reported it on 05/02/2011.

Could we have it please?

Hi Diane, David or anyone.

Why can't I access the digital editions of ME 4430 and the new 4431, the system comes up that it can't find the file.

"can't find the file at http://www.mydigitalmagazine.co.uk/de/7/1433/."

Is the msg from one of them.

Issues before this are fine and I was able to access 4430 but not now.

Have checked and my Subs are fine out to 2013

Have sent a msg to diane but no reply as yet.

Just had a thought, must check if MEW access is working.
