Thread: how many 'one time' tools do you have? |
30/11/2015 08:02:35 |
Hi
That is interesting as I do the same. Only yesterday I modified a special tool I made some years ago, for a 'one off'' job. I modified it for a similar job, where it was just not quite right.
Yes they are worth hanging on to!

Thread: Another band saw blade snapped – Have I got the tension wrong. |
03/11/2015 10:32:10 |
Quote: Keith these metal cutting band saws don't have tires
Sorry about that, but is the blade running smoothly within the cast wheel? any lumps and bumps? Is the blade sitting centrally? |
03/11/2015 08:25:44 |
Hi
Just a final thought, have you checked the state of the tyres on the wheels. If damaged this can cause BIG problems, and tends to be overlooked. It is a good idea to go through all the settings by the book, not a quick look ' that seems ok'. measure gaps, check free running, watch and listen when running the blade. It is surprisin how much better a bandsaw will work with the right settings!
Good luck

Hi
If it jumps at the weld it suggests the blades you are using are poor quality. The weld should be as smooth as the rest of the blade.
If the blade breaks at the weld, most suppliers will give a free replacement

Hi If the magazine is heading that way, perhaps we should drop the word MODEL!
Bending and welding is part of engineering, but relevant to model makers? Best regards Keith Leeds UK |

Thread: Dimmer Switch |
11/11/2013 15:26:05 |
Hi
I have used a dimmer switch to run an ex sewing machine motor driving a small lathe. I have had no problems, although you wouldn't be able to claim under manufacturers guarantee if it went wrong.
A dimmer switch from screwfix is only about a fiver, so it is worth trying.

Thread: Is it just me? |
05/09/2013 22:27:38 |
Hi
I was also dissapointed wth this mag.
One of my gripes is the long, waffling articles over many issues, and other overly simple short articles.
Where is the happy medium we used to hav?

Hi I purchased a set of these about 5 years ago. Still going strong, having tapped and died plenty. http://www.maplin.co.uk/40-piece-tap-and-die-set-30641 Mind you they were only about £17.00 then. Inflation!!

Thread: download |
25/05/2013 11:27:18 |
Hi
...... and I use PDFSAM to join them all together again. That is free as well.
As so many of us are saving the whole magazine, maybe those in authority should think about making it a downloadable file. It is not going to detract much, if any from the profits. After all if you have a paper copy you can still give it away, or sell it!
