Thread: Learning CAD with Alibre Atom3D |
08/02/2023 23:52:32 |
Well I spent January doing a personal project and by the end of that I decided to have a punt at doing a loco just like the big boys do So I put my big boy pants on and chose LBSCs BAT from the start of WW2 Of course I'm chuffed but this is to show anyone watching what you can do after 5 weeks with Alibre, the big motivation is you can actually see it move I hadn't a clue about Locos when I started 10 days ago, but now I actually have a tiny clue about what's actually going on with these things I would also totally recommend to anyone doing a big or new project that you do it in CAD first, the amount of stuff it throws up before you cut metal is life saving, I would take at least 3 to 5 years to do this project... or 20 to 30 days in CAD

Very important that you renew it or things can get very weird Then reset your clock in bios to the right time if you can A lot of software uses date stuff and it gets even weirder on the internet, a lot of sites won't even let you display a page Edited By Ady1 on 08/02/2023 16:03:46 |

with a home made setup for milling steel you really need weight/mass of 100KG plus to absorb the cutting forces and in milling world, 100KG is a lightweight Edited By Ady1 on 07/02/2023 23:32:03 |

Thread: UK Electricity Prices |

Privatisation of utilities is always a disaster, it was never done to help people, it was done to gouge people Britain was energy independent until recently when they stopped coal burning and the oil wells started running dry Non energy independent countries always suffer in the global system and most end up as "poor" Knowing the system is out to diddle people means I don't bother looking closely at it anymore but my last good look showed EDF raising French prices by 3% at the command of the French government while in the UK EDF hiked prices by 10%, and that was one single year You'll will note that our wonderful free press don't talk about these things, they only babble on about "climate change". The people who run and own the media also have vast investments in our dodgy utilities Edited By Ady1 on 07/02/2023 09:44:03 |

These things do turn up useful stuff from time to time, but the main reason for these regulations is to gouge wealth out of the private sector and spread it into the wider economy Pretty much every government council and public sector building in the country would fail the standards they impose on the little people and it would cost them billions to rectify Look at the state of parliament which is one building, it's been a fire trap for decades |

I had the same issue, plus a wonky floor I put up my good shelving and braced it over the top with 4x6 wood, so zero screws/bolts needed Got an extra storage area up top as a bonus too! |
Thread: Juneero |

https://www.model-engineer.co.uk/forums/postings.asp?th=184387&p=1 The big problem with the Juneero was it was so weedy that it needed it's own special soft metal construction kits, you couldn't simply use ordinary mild plate steel

1. get a battery tester 2. If an item conks out with 2 duracell batteries then test them, often only one is a dud Nowadays I mix my batteries, one duracell and the rest rechargeable, This setup isn't so long lived but most of the time it's a rechargeable which needs changed and so only costs pennies after the purchase (Lidl gear mainly) The best basic stuff is duracell rechargeables + fast charger but they aint cheep For very low batteries which struggle to recharge I use a hiking portable solar recharger box to get a bit of power into them, these use a very low trickle charge, just stick it on a window sill for a day or two and If the battery still won't charge up after that then in my house its a dud I recall something concerning freezers/fridges... but a long time ago now Edited By Ady1 on 01/02/2023 16:38:57 |
