My subscription is running out

25 forum posts	So, it's been a year, and I'm looking at the pricing (again) for North American Subscribers. The UK, EU, Australia, and New Zealand are paying £ 42.00, which is $66 USD. >> ExpressMags is charging $89 USD, and $109 Canadian. So for some reason, the US and Canada pay 30% more than the rest of the world for Model Engineer's Workshop. How much longer will this continue? 26 forum posts	I wonder how long this post will last? the last time this went round a lot of us were banned for some time or forever. I was promised by the web manager that somethig would be done to bring the Canadian price more into line with the ROW price. This was not to be. Now I really like the magazine which is most unfortunate as I will not ,Indeed , can not accept the continued prejudice by the management of Model Engineer and MEW towards Canadians. My subscription after many years will not be renewed.

25 forum posts	Owen, if David deletes my post, he'll have answered my question. I really like MEW as well -- it's excellent! But somehow ExpressMags has managed to apply a levy to the North American subscriptions. We've heard all the excuses: shipping and distribution to the US and Canada is higher than shipping and distribution to Australia and New Zealand. ??? I really miss Wise Owl Publications -- they were good people

3357 forum posts 112 photos 10 articles	Hi There The subscription price for Model Engineer was reduced. Canadians have a tax on magazines which the US does not. Ebay conversion gives 129 Canadian dollars as 81.3747 GB pounds. This is less than £3 more than ROW subscription. However, 109 Canadian dollars is 68.72 pounds against 52.95 GB pounds. I will see what is going on. regards David

2356 forum posts 47 photos	I have no such special taxes, extra charges, or delivery problems with EIM. It is mailed directly from UK, as ME used to be, and I have had NO problems with delivery here to Ontario Canada. Frequently it arrives the first day of the issue month. In contrast, typically I get my copies of ME and MEW 4 to 6 WEEKS after issue date. Without getting into any arguments about content or no. of pages etc , the point is I GET the EIM magazines on time with good ME content, with no hassles, and at reasonable cost and without going through a flakey remailer service. Job done as far as I'm concerned. MyHobbyStore could learn some lessons from EIM about delivery service and cost. I am not a satisfied subscriber to ME and MEW because of these constant delivery problems and delays and the high prices. JD

2356 forum posts 47 photos	I just received a renewal offer letter from Expressmags for MEW. They offer me 13 issues of MEW for $111.87 CAD, or $111.42 USD. (using today's exchange rate $1 CAD=$1.004 USD per Bank of Canada at noon). If anyone cares, I'll make a photo of the letter and post it. David, you mentioned the ROW rate at 52.95 UK pounds. Today's pound exchange rate is 1.566 UK pounds = $1 CAD. This works out to $82.96 CAD, not $111.87 as noted by Expressmags. I really hate these funny goings on at Expressmags. JD

5068 forum posts 3 photos	Funny isn't it? The USA don't recognise there is a rest of the world when it comes to the USA , most Americans think Neil Armstrong was the first American to go abroad. However when it comes to them being on the loosing side it soon gets dummies thrown out of prams. Not that we will ever find the true cost out but it would be interesting to know how much MHS charges Express mags and their markup ? John S.

You are missing the point - if one nation is getting hosed today, it could easily be your nation getting hosed tomorrow. (wherever it may be) I think the main issue is that there are certainly some very dissatisfied subscribers here. I don't know too many businesses, especially publications, that can afford to dissatisfy customers and have them walk away these days.

21 forum posts 1 photos	Robert, I had been weighing the question just this morning. I tried to logging in to the archives on 30 Aug. I had no success. I emailed the CEO, David Clark and the head of the subscritpion department. David replied that my subscription had expired that day and the subscription head replied. I had been receiving the magazines sometimes two issues later than others on more than one occasion, usually about 6 weeks late. I received an email from the distributor asking if I had received my expiration notice. Yes I finally did, it came at the same six week late time period (apparently that is difficult to figure out in some circles). So I could not see the issues online I was supposed to get while wating for the issues and the subscription notice and I did not appreciate the tone of the subscription department email response. Yesterday I stopped at a large book retailer supposed to carry the magazines monthly and they had issue 169 on the shelf. No luck there either. If you poked your finger on the US map in the middle it would probably be close. I used to subscribe to ME and then MEW later. I recall no such problems. I do miss the MEW issues but delivery problems are tipping the scale. David Clark has always been responsive in trying to resolve problems and I have appreciated that.

26 forum posts	No Kwil it is not the same. The 32.95USD price is the ROW price similar to the 52.95GBP price fro MEW. For it to be the same there would have to be yet another price for Digital Machinist at 59.00USD applicable to UK residents only. If something like this exsisted I would be the first one to be in your corner backing your complaints. I would do this simply because I am Canadian.

19 forum posts	David, My subscription to MEW is up for renewal. Express Mags is charging US customers $89 and Canadian (Ontario) customers $99 + $12.87 tax. The Canadian dollar has been at or near par with the US dollar since September and is now slightly above par, with expectations that it will remain so for some time - due to the US printing money to cover it's deficit. I will not renew at an 11% premium to that paid by US customers, particularly since Express Mags is a Canadian company operating out of Montreal. I hope you will encourage Express Mags to bring their pricing into line with current exchange rates. Edited By David Clark 1 on 05/01/2011 08:22:43
