3293 forum posts 112 photos | May we ask whose bright idea it was to put that blasted flashing subscription advertisement up, just below the Forum header bars? Some of the quick-change trade ads are bad enough, but this is worse. It is an awful gimmick, changing about three times a second, in a sort of headache-inducing attempt at subliminal advertising. You are not appealing to young teenagers with the concentration span of a gnat, generally, so please get rid of it. Advertise the service yes, but can you please do so properly in a style that matches a generally fairly serious, technical forum? |

865 forum posts 12 photos | Not the first time the ME/W forums have had flashing ads. They were quite common 10 years or so ago and someone at that time suggested a way to turn off the flashing which I implemented and it has worked ever since. I still see the underlying ad (as in this case) but not the flashing. Trouble is I can't remember how it was done (sorry) ... other than that it was a change to the browser setup. There may be some info in this thread if anyone wants to plod through it. Edited By Peter Greene 🇨🇦 on 11/04/2023 22:29:39 |

It's working it has got your attention, that is what it us supposed to do. Yeah .... but when I go there I don't understand it. For each mag, there are two listings in each category identical except for the price. |

When I first saw the sample forums that we will be changing to one of the first thing I commented on was flashing and pop up adverts and said they would not be welcome. But on behalf of Classicmags I would like to thank you for drawing a lot more clicks and attention than it would otherwise have got |

3293 forum posts 112 photos | It's not advertising the subscription method that's the problem. We buy the magazines, after all, so being told of another method is fine. The problem is its presentation: the extremely irritating flashing you can't always avoid simply by manipulating the screen. It's a gimmick that looks borrowed from the childish world of pop-music videos and sports-TV titles; whence it should be returned! |
