The News also explained the storm is some 2000 miles in diameter, from Canada to just within Mexico. (Most weather systems are about 1000 miles across) and likely to continue for up to a week. |

2742 forum posts 39 photos | We have family living and working over there in the Pittsburgh area, right in the path of this thing. They are resilient and prepared as best as they can be, but a severe power outage over a wide area will make things difficult and testing for them all. At our last contact yesterday temperatures were already well south of zero ( F not C out there) and getting colder. Brian |

Granddaughter scheduled to bring an aircraft back from Orlando on the 27 th that is if everything is back on schedule by then. Dave W |

...... Living in Manchester she is used to such weather. ...... JA We might be oop north, but it doesn't get anything like that cold in Manchester. Coldest I've seen recently was -8 during the 'Beast from the east'. Why do we have to give periods of cold weather silly names? It's winter, it's meant to be cold now and again. The average December temperature in Lancashire is the same as Surrey, 6 degrees C |

![]() 7881 forum posts 397 photos | My friends and family in Montana, USA, report temps down to minus 35F, but next week it is forecast to be up to 40F above zero. They are used to the minus 35, but 40 above in the middle of winter was unheard of when I lived there 30 years ago. Now apparently it happens regularly. Situation normal here in Far North Queensland today, 30C and raining like crazy. Quite pleasant for this time of year. Edited By Hopper on 25/12/2022 09:53:46 |

![]() 3988 forum posts 1799 photos | Hi, it seems easy to blame such events like this on global warming these days. Someone in the know said on TV a few days ago that these particular blasts happen from time to time and couldn't be predicted over a long term, I can't remember when they said the last one happened, but it was very many years before global warming was ever heard of. Regards Nick. |
