I'm doing a REMAP job for a church. I ordered and paid for some wrought iron stair spindles from a company called "Trade Stair Parts" (website ***HERE***). I placed the order on May 3rd and am still awaiting delivery. When I phone I get a message saying that the number is temporarily unavailable. Emails are answered with a standard message saying...

================= response message ====================

Dear Customer,
Thank you for contacting Trade Stair Parts Ltd, we have received your request, however, we are currently experiencing a very high volume of emails and calls so it will take us slightly longer than usual to respond to your query. We will respond to you as soon as we possibly can and as not to overload our advisors we ask that you do not contact us by other means or with a new message in the meantime.
Please note that in line with our Website information we are currently experiencing delays on top of the usual dispatch times of 15 working days, we will try our best to get all orders dispatched as soon as we possibly can and you will receive an email once your order has been dispatched. We apologise for the inconvenience and appreciate your understanding at this time.
Kind regards and please stay safe!
The Trade Stair Parts Team

So, they have my money and I have no way of contacting them, other than actually going to them. But since they are in Halstead, Essex and I'm in Leamington Spa, it's not really practical.

Does anybody know if they are still in business?

Their address is

37-39 Second Avenue

Bluebridge Industrial Estate

Halstead, Essex,

CO9 2SU

It looks like they are broadly still in business, but recent Google reviews aren't great
I guess it depends on how long you're prepared to wait

Hope you paid with credit card, Paypal or not as good a debit card? If so start making noises to the card provider.

Have a look on their Facebook page for plenty of people in the same position as you, some claim to have been refunded by Paypal.

If you are waiting for wrought iron - you may have to wait a very long time ! Mild steel will most probably be supplied.

Mild steel is what you'll get - if anything ! A firm I would recommend is F.H. Brundle. for all iron work supplies. Noel

The Brundle contact is interesting but on the subject of Church repairs does anyone have a source of old looking non galvanised square head woodscrews about 6-8mm shank size for oak door furniture where the nails no longer hold?

That should be iron furniture for oak doors.

They are called Square Head (or Square Drive) Coach Screws - old stock turns up on Ebay, or try Arun Fasteners..

Hello,

GARY;

Yes, I bought a sample metal baluster for a job I was doing 3-4 years ago, it was delivered ok, but not the best quality in my opinion. A better sample came from another company, who then stopped trading before I could place the full order!!

I then found this company, who supplied balusters, similar to the company who had ceased trading.

PHG

BAZYLE;

As said by others "Coach Screws with Sq Head" probably imperial sizes, so may be hard to find.

Mark.

Been using Brundles for years very good company. Family owned, on fourth generation I think now. If you tell them you are from REMAP you may get them for nothing.

Thanks for the pointer. 1" x 5/16 square head on ebay.

Hmm, that's really not very good news at all. I've got a feeling that there's nobody actually there.

Thanks for all the input. I wish I'd known about all those bad reviews before I placed my order.

Since I paid by Credit-card I've started proceedings to get my money back, and will try Brundles or PGH.

Well, I've done it.

I've ordered anew from Brundles - thanks vintage engineer. Had I known, I'd have gone to them first - they were very helpful - and cheaper.
