That was down to those folk who use their phones as a car key and don't bother carrying the RFID card that comes with the Model3 as the primary 'key'. A key 'fob' is also available as an extra for the £ but standard on X & S models.

Trust no-one, always have a backup plan.

Glitches like this are common - I’ve been to a supermarket when either card readers are down or the till system has crashed and cash machines have gone down before now. It was only a week or so ago when the Welsh? NHS system went down and no-one could get a GP appt for that day. Centralisation leads to no alternatives.

Getting everything 'connected' is only the first stage. Next step will be the implanted chip at birth so the people will be under control too. I know it's true 'cos I read it on the interweb . . .

I was there for the Festival, etc some years ago and staying in the centre with nowhere to park. Fortunately, I had a bike with me and was able to commute to and from a remote parking place.

My friends and I had a wonderful time and we walked to most destinations; perhaps we should think more of being carless drivers?

Getting shut out of their vehicles was simply down to the stupid owners/drivers. Had they taken their proper entry fob thing it would not have happened. Certainly they could not remotely program the car, but getting in and doing it from the car screen would not have been so difficult - except for the stupid ones….

Some of us are old enough to remember when Maggie Thatcher decided to cross swords with Arthur Scargill, and the result was rota power cuts of up to 16 hours a day, and even then, if the house was all electric, that was a problem.

Now, with the way that technology is changing things, imagine the implications of no power for long periods of time across an entire area, No light, no heat, no cooking, no communications or internet, the potential for freezer contents to spoil, and in a few years time, the possibility that it won't be possible to get to work the next day because the car battery hasn't been charged overnight. In some areas, it won't even be possible to call emergency services, depending on how the phone in the house is connected to the local exchange and then onwards to the network.

These sorts of issues could happen as a result of just a lack of wind, or as a result of severe weather damaging the infrastructure, and the race to the bottom has meant that there is not the investment in resilience or spare capacity to try and ensure that there is capacity to deal with unexpected events. I won't go on to discuss the potential for more disruption as a result of someone turning off the gas taps on the supply from Russia.

A long time ago, I had to put in a substantial generator to ensure that the computer I had here could be operated even if the power was off. The computer was sold off a long time ago, but given the uncertainty of the future, I decided that I would not sell the generator off, and given the way things are looking for the future, I may well end up being very happy that I can keep most of the house going even if the supply has gone out.

Favourite phrase of sales men across the world is "It'll be grand", and they're never anywhere to be seen when for whatever reason, it's NOT grand. Properly evaluating the real risks is a skill that too many people seem to be willing to ignore, and the result is too often a nightmare as a result.

Marketing and geeks build in the problems.
Recently Apple marketing decided they would be so clever that their phones should warn people that a WPA network is not secure unless it is WPA2. This of course is meaningless to 99% of people who panic that someone is now watching their every move (oblivious of apple, google, etc actually doing that). They either whinge and whine or find someone who switches their router to WPA2. Now all their cameras and doorbells that can't work on WPA2 stop working. They don't understand that their network change is the culprit. More pain.

The whole Internet of things is basically a scam. The idea is to sell you things that depend on talking to a remote server at their site to work. When they feel like it, they turn off the server, your IOT device stops working, and they hope to sell you a new one. The same applies with operating system upgrades, where you will often find yourself stuck with a perfectly serviceable device for which updated driver are not available.

Then there is the dreadful security, or lack of, with a lot of these IOT devices, where they are very useful to people who want to use them for denial of service attacks. You might never know that your device has been taken over and used to cause harm to other people.

I have just retired from teaching blind and visually impaired students and many were wanting these to give them the mobility their sighted peers have. If you add in those people who develop sight issues in life or other conditions where they are unable to obtain a driving licence then the concept becomes viable. Self driving cars will also allow people to work whilst travelling should they wish to.

If you buy even a modest small car today it could well have collision avoidance, self parking and lane warning technology so the technical concepts are already out there - they just need to be connected up to the satnav and delivered in a form the public will accept - because I know at least one driver who always turns off the lane changing technology and collision avoidance in his car because he 'doesn't like them'

If you had your booster it's already too late, the chip is already being built by the nanobots. On the plus side my 5G reception is much better since I had mine.

There seems to be a surprising quantity of people who actually believe that!

I’ve had my booster still can’t get 5G though.
