HydroVane PR303E question

I originally posed this question in another thread, but got no response. Quite simply, I've got a PR303E but cannot find a user manual for it. In the photos, I think 'A' is the oil filler cap, but don't know what 'B' and 'C' are. Can anyone help please? Does anybody have a copy of the user manual?

Just guessing, but I suspect C would access the filter. Not so sure about B though.

Edit - from the photos, this one on Ebay appears to have an instruction sheet. Might be worth contacting the seller and asking for a photocopy?

I haven't got a manual either BUT I have got one of these ! A wonderful and almost bombproof small air commpressor. It has a built in pressure relief set at about 40PSI. A) is the oil level. B) is the filler. C) is the filter. Any oilis better than NONE. I would use SAE 30 unless you have any better info. I can't check mine as I have lent it out. The were made for paint spraying. I haven't asked, but judging by the price of the one on eBay (£650), I don't think the seller would co-operate.

I have the same compressor so asked the seller cost for copy of the instruction sheet PDF by email, not surprising £20, bit like the asking price.

All you really need to know is change the oil regularly and clean the intake filter so not bothering with instructions !!!

Yes, i have one too. Someone left one by the side of the road a few months ago for free and i grabbed it. It was filthy, so i cleaned it up, sorted out the dodgy cable and it works perfectly. Mine has a tyre inflator attachment fitted. Yes, its the oil and filter. You can take them apart easily, there is viirtally no moving parts.

I have a plan to use it to power a mist coolant system as it is pretty quiet - not sure if it can deliver enough air.

I asked him "what work exactly has been done to this compressor as it is described as 'seller refurbished', did you use any spares?" (potential for mis-selling, not as described)

It wouldn't surprise me if it didn't sell....

Idear for tyres relief valve lifts at about 40 PSI. Pumps continuously, no electric cutout. Noel.

Have you priced the cost of a new small capacity Hydrovane compressor. I think that if it is in good working order the asking price might well be reasonable.

Mine runs professional Bijur Spraymist systems just fine on my lathes and mill.

DIY mist coolant systems usually need less air so you should be fine. Use a fog buster design.

I do have the manual, but alas my scanner is down at the moment. I also have the bigger HV0* series, but rather more expensive.

Originally used to power a constant bleed paint gun around 30psi. There was also a dental model avai;able (because it is so quiet)

A pic, with a mobile phone/tablet/camera, and saved as a screenshot is likely good enough for purpose. Especially if emailed at full resolution.

I think the instruction manual would boil down to 'clean the filter occasionally and change the oil periodically'. I can't see there is anything else to do or go go wrong.

Hi Gary, had mine for over 35 years now and sad to say have never put oil in it (level hasn’t gone down) or cleaned the filter and touch wood is still ok. It was ex BT cable pressurisation comp.

Mine also came from a retired BT worker so perhaps it was the std compressor for that job.

Hi everyone!

It's almost four months later and the one for 650 on ebay is still up for sale. I think it will be up there for another ten years.

Anyway bought one yesterday for 20 quid. Yes, without finding this post I wouldn't know that it has an oil filter, so a manual would be useful. Powered it up yesterday, to test it. It runs and makes air, though I saw the gauge going up quite fast I turned it off to prevent it blowing up. Now I read here that it has a relief valve, something I was thinking of too that it should have, but couldn't see any so turned it off to protect it.

Very silent, took oil level out and oil is a very milky inside. Is that supposed to be white-ish? My main question is, what grade of oil should I get? I can see a net search brings up ISO VG150 for hydrovane compressors. Is that the right oil. Is the oil filter obtainable from somewhere online? I will pop it out once I finish work today.

P.S: also, I want to the attach the output to a used gas cylinder to have some buffer. Anyone done that?

Tiger, yes but I run mine attached to an old red floor standing fire extinguisher
