Evolution rage2

Last year I moved house and sold nearly all of my workshop equipment as we were downsizing.
I have now got withdrawal symptoms and have bought a mini lathe and mill which fit in to my garden shed. As space is limited I was considering the evolution rage 2 chop saw for cutting metal.

Has anyone got any information on these saws regarding performance and noise levels please?

Thanks for the fast reply Frances, that is the kind of info I am looking for, online videos are all very well, but someone with practical experience of the for our kind of use is invaluable.

Second what Frances said, also bloody noisy, so earmuffs a faceshield, hat and scarf necessary in a confined space.

Got one here you can have for nothing if you can pick it up or arrange collection

as Frances said, excellent for softer steels, don't try rebar and high tensile steels as blade won't last long, non ferrous are good but do wear all protective goggles etc. I don't have a bandsaw, so its the Rage for me (on my 2nd blade).

Just get a 125mm discs angle grinder, which cuts everything

I use blue spot 1mm stainless discs

Aldi may still have a few left in their stores, their online stock sold out fast

Thanks for your generous offer Alan, much appreciated, but it looks like I will be using the old Armstrong hacksaw for now.

Ally needs a dead straight cut, I use a bench angle grinder to do bar up to 50mm

And don't breathe the dust as it flies about...

Just bought one second hand from my neighbour .One blade cuts steel and wood.Mounted it on a piece of old kitchen worktop screwed to a length of 4 x 2. Then it clamps into a work mate. Always used outside ,too messy to use in shed.I think it’s a very good machine.Regarding noise, all cutting machines make it.

i bought one of the £150.00 Aldi band saws and have been very pleased with it. It's fairly quiet, does not throw swarf about and it has variable speed for different materials. I have bought spare blades from Tuff saws but not yet had the replace the original blade. There was at least one thread on the forum on these saws, about 2 years ago. it was an on line -only offer, not sure if they still do them.

I have had a Rage saw for a while. The same blade cuts wood and metal, but I have used it almost exclusively for wood. It is noisy on metal and creates a shower of sparks . I have recently used it with a diamond blade to cut some block paving blocks which worked well.

I bought an Aldi ‘portable’ bandsaw earlier this year and have found it good. The vice is not particularly good and the cut on mine is not quite square, but overall I am happy with it. It is available at the moment online only at £160.

I would recommend a bandsaw over a Rage saw if you only want to cut metal.

I have one of these chop saws.

I was considering buying one from either Toolstation or Screwfix but contacted the company fro “Pre-sales information” and discovered that I could buy an almost new manufacturer refurbished model at around half the price.

When I opened the box, it looked brand new.

It does make a mess when cutting steel bar - but nothing that my Nil&isk can’t handle.

Instead of a chop saw get a small bandsaw. Much better, light weight, less mess and quieter. Do a search here on MEW, lots of articles posted.

I did consider a Bandsaw but don't have sufficient space for one in my shed-workshop.

Their not that big. Mine sits on top of a milk crate and can be picked up with one hand and stored away.

I agree with Paul. My bandsaw takes up less benchtop area than my Rage2. I now only use the Rage2 for wood.

hated mine. blade did not last long so got a band saw quilter and safer then put a wood blade in the rage 2

I have an Evolution Rage saw blade which I use occasionally in my radial arm saw, for example for cutting sheet metal when it works very well.

The blade is well designed with neutral rake and chip limitation and, FWIW, made in Japan.
