My Father-in-law has some big machines he no longer needs.

I'm not sure what is the best way to ensure these machines go to people who would like them.

Are they valuable?

Link to some photos (hopefully this link will work):

Thanks for any help you can offer.

Hello Mike

Your father in law has some nice quality machines there, probably a few thousand pounds worth if sold properly. I would advertise via Tony Griffiths www.lathes.co.uk who will advise on what they are worth and help with the advert wording. He does charge a fee but think you will get the best price with no hassles that way. Beware of traders who offer a few hundred quid to clear the workshop.

Hope this helps. Andy

The Schaublin lathes are certainly popular and valuable. How valuable depends on condition and included accessories. You might want to take some more pictures of those. (The Schaublin 70 might have an audience among watchmakers too).

The Denford seems to be computer controlled. I've seen pricing for that all over the place. Pictures of accessories would again be helpful - sometimes they cost more than the actual machine.

Those are actually not that big and are high quality machines. Yes they have significant value.
Other will have a better idea of exact values but the small bits an pieces and accessories are important and add to value.
An adver on here might work otherwise an auction (one for each machine with any bits you can associate with it) is a good option.

The Schaublin 102 lathes are advertised for around 7000 Euro from dealers in Europe to give you an idea but a private sale would be less. As others have said condition and accessories can make a big difference. It looks good in the pictures and not worn out.

The Denford Novamill would sell for between £700 and £2000 depending on details. If it works with a modern computer then £2k.

Thanks for the comments everyone!

Andrew - there is a PC next to the Dentford, it looks about 10-ish years old.

My Father-in-law made clocks and even published some in Model Engineer magazine.

So, I believe he will have a lot of accessories to go with everything.

I presume all the 'templates' for his clocks are on this PC too. I'd be a shame if these files were lost.

Believe you are too optimistic with the Novamill price, if fitted with the cabinet and chip guard they go for your bottom figure, but stripped bare they don't make as much. Even if retrofitted and running with Mach or Linux IMO £2000 is way OTT for a machine with such little distance tool to table.
Although 1 recently made £2650 but it had the BT30 spindle and an ATC.

Andrew, if you check the Denford plate the date of manufacture will be stamped in, much more than 10 years old.

Perhaps I am being a bit optimistic on the Novamill. I sold one years ago converted to Mach 3 for, I think, £1500 on eBay (very similar to what I paid and I may be over egging the pudding as it was a while back) and my impression is that prices have gone up. If someone wants a smaller, quality CNC milling machine they are a good option and not that easy to get.

........and you can greatly ease the daylight problem by using BT30 collets direct in the spindle...
