Just joined today after watching for several months.

Live near Wisbech Cambs, 66, recently retired and got a mini mill to play with to stop me getting bored.

I'm turning the garage into a small man-cave/workshop and will expand it as the mood takes me but a mini lathe will definately be added soon.

No particular leanings toward any of the 'normal' model engineer disciplines so I'll have a go at anything that takes my fancy. Just want to re-learn some old skills (ex-RAF Techie) and learn some new ones.

Looking forward to spending some time on here learning from the experienced guys.

Hi Iain welcome to the forum. Ex-RAF techie sound like you may have skills which could be useful on here.

Hi Iain.

You have come to the right place. Lots of clever engineering advice to be had.

Steve.

Thanks for the welcome chaps. I doubt that I'll have any skills that would be useful here (unless you want an old RR Avon engine setting up).

Just looking forward to tinkering and, as Brian suggests, you never know where it'll take me dont know

Iain: Don't know about the old Avon, a group up in the North Island has just got an FB-5 Vampiire assembled from parts, fitted a Goblin, and lit up the kero, it will be a museum machine, able to taxi. Some of the crew working on it were ex RNZAF from the days when the Vampire was our main strike aircraft, so they knew a few of the tricks needed to get them together and with a bit of luck get them going.

Aha, perfect timing Ian. I have just the project for you, Marham are offering their Victor gate gardian free to a good home to anyone who promises to restore it.

Could be an ideal starter project and as has already been said you have the ideal skills.

Welcome to the madhouse anyway.

regards Martin

Welcome!

Not aware of a M E club in or near Wisbech.

Nearest will probably be Peterborough Society of Model Engineers (We meet 1st and 3rd Mondays of the month at Cleeve Place, Eye ) members do come from across the fens.

Or maybe Kings Lynn, if you are the far side.

You will find, and probably can provide plenty of help and advice on here.

Ian - good to hear that another old bus has been saved from the graveyard. I was lucky enough to spend a short time (far too short) with the RAF's Vintage Pair of Meteor & Vampire when they were based in Yorkshire back in the 70's. Happy days. North Island might be a bit of a commute for me though sad

Martin - I might have a bit of trouble getting the Victor into the back of my old estate car - may need two trips perhaps dont know.

Howard - Cleeve Place behind the back of the old Blue Boar pub, correct? You'll have to let me know exactly where & I'll pop over some time. It's only 15 mins from me.

Once again, many thanks for the welcome chaps.

I presume that the Victor is out of hours, so it can't deliver it's self. Wouldn't really be relevant here. We would like the old A-4 Skyhawks back again, or something similar, they were the last things we had with teeth, a step up from the B-12 Canberas, and Vampires. I think it might be a bit much of a pull for my E bike from were ever it arrived in NZ. I think the next Mosquito is going to UK, Duxford I think.
