Here is a concept I have recently placed under my new lathe installation. Each tray measures 8x24" inside and accommodates various bars stocks and materials I utilize. Trays can easily be moved to other workshop areas if needed. As soon as I figure out how to publish more than one picture per post I will review the lathe and tooling recently installed in my shop.

A workshop that clean and tidy. You're kidding us. This is a studio staged shot. wink

No Studio here just got tired of grubbing thru 50" plus of shelved bar stocks! Sometimes it helps to take a fresh look at the way we accomplish things in our shops.

Hi Robert,

A very nice solution, and as Bazyle says, that is a clean and tidy workshop.

I spend as much time cleaning and tidying as machining. Still can't get mine looking like that.

My stuff gets squeezed into any hole I can find for it and there aren't many of THOSE holes remaining. I'd need a lot of timber for drawers that would hold 4 x 2 metre lengths of 100mm x 60mm MS bars and that would be just the start. Sadly I have had to lose a lot of timber to make room for the barstock so as envious as I am of Roberts elegant solution, pretty storage is a luxury I have no room for.

I hope my wife never looks under the bed in the spare bedroom or finds my secret stash under the floor void of our summer house - I can't stand pain! vamp

Needing to keep my welding rods in a dry environment they are kept in the bottom of a built in cupboard in the corner of our bedroom, the cupboard has a small tubular heater to keep the environment stable, wife was not too pleased but accepts it now. I despair when I see photos of immaculate workshops, there’s no chance mine will ever look like that.

I visited Whitwell Vintage rally last Sunday and found a wood worker selling his wares particularly seed boxes, 15"x9" 2" deep at three for £5 so bought six, ideal for tool and material storage.

Don't worry the floor will disappear from view sooner or later, I think mine does about 35 milliseconds after clearing it on average!

I have Spur Shelving above head height for long lengths and a 900x600x1800mm 1000kg per shelf rack system with mesh shelves for shorter lengths.
