This little engine was certainly a challenge, not least because of the frequent need to make another tool. Still, I learnt a lot and probably swore just as much, especially when a tool jam shattered the first crank shaft. Thanks to Mogens for the original series.

Here's a link to a short video and a few pics .

Can you spot the crank shaft template in the above pic - I made it from my old corporate Amex card!

Very nice Chris, love the scale, so much patience needed making detailed parts that size.

Not to mention good eyesight and non arthritic fingers.

I love the parade of parts as well.

Great stuff Geoff

Nicely done Chris, it doesn't half go!

Look out for a rather different project from Mogens in the next MEW.

If it is half as good as some of the projects Mogens has shown in the past i'm looking forward to it already !

Very nice work Chris !

Thanks all

Geoff - it needed a good head magnifier, which meant I kept crashing into the lathe chuck (no milling machine)

Neil - I'm intrigued already. I guess I don't have long to wait

Hi Bandersnatch

The series started in ME 4383 - 30 July 2010 and ran through to the end of the year (4383, 4386, 4388, 4390, 4392, 4393 and 4394). Have fun

Chris

Just a note to say Mogen's 'Wire Straightener' has had to be held over to MEW 271.

Jason isn't far off

Not a case of replacing it, a case of not being able to fit it in due to more overmatter from 269 than expected and two articles coming out longer than originally estimated.

I love that little beauty,

Too advanced for me at the moment but it's gone on the must make list.

I just had to make one of these... Now nearly finished, wants a few more bits and a cleanup but it certainly goes ok..

I altered Mogens original design with triangular section crosshead slides and a different frame design with the cylinders having square end sections connecting directly to frames. I intended to get rid of the steam pipes to the cylinder and have a passage for the steam go directly through the frame and into the engine, but I must admit the U shaped pipes do look quite good,
