And he ahs a point as most on here are retired and have FAR,FAR too much time on their hands.

Not time that could be spent doing something productive but more nit picking and seeing how many angels can dance on a Myford [ genuine ] pin head.

Of all the posters on her only about 10 or so are practical and prepared to show what they have made.

The rest are armchair warriors who do have time so why not clean a scan up.

I didn't get in from work until 6:30 tonight and had to start dinner.

But tell me please ... is yours from John Stevenson the SuperHero, or from John Stevenson the Moderator ?

There is no "need" to clean up the scan, it is [just about] useable as it stands ... I merely observed that it was a pity that the resolution was so poor ... and that is why I thought your comment was so ridiculous.

You will note, however, that I was the first [and to date, the only] person on this thread to thank Neil and Bill [Cornish Jack] for making it available.

So far as I am aware, this forum is open to all those with an interest ... however they choose to exercise it.

No, not a Joke Rik.

Even Moderators can have views and it's my personal view that this forum with it's 90% theory based against 10% practical actually drive newcomers away. It is after all the Model engineer and Model Engineers Workshop forum.

In the last year I have done 6 jobs for members of this board to help with projects. All free of charge and most sent postage free although in one case i did get a couple of pound coins taped to the inside of the envelope to send a quite heavy part back ?

Not were done for profit but to help. They covered shafts, spindles, pulleys and gears.

In not one case has the part or project ever surfaced on this site. they will all be languishing in boxes under benches, never to see the light of day.

I think you could do with a nice holiday John - somewhere remote and isolated where the likes of us lot will not give you grief - why not try a week in Hunstanton? No bugger goes there this time of year - should suit you down to the ground!

Personally John has pointed me in directions that have helped me when asking questions.

I have asked for advice many times and members answers on the whole have been useful.

The only downside of enquiring that another member pointed out after many replies was that is not What Windy Asked.

Maybe and should be cautious how many members are armchair engineers at the moment I am as on R-CODOX-M/R-IVAC for Chemotherapy in hospital.

Nurse said each letter is a drug but should have a very good survival rate of 80% to 90% if no complications.

Fortunately a friends loaned laptop has kept me bed active and am spending hours upgrading my latest project plus ordering material.

After a lousy year health wise it's been a wakeup call and as soon as I've escaped sorry been discharged the midnight oil will be burning to hopefully see it running in a few years time.

A friend I have more than one had a reprieve from cancer and is working like hell to finish his gas turbine three wheeler also a very few years ago did his first 200 mph run at Elvington on his conventional motorbike.

By the way he is another older fogy than me (just) but we don't just sit on our arses letting the World go by.

100% support for John, every organisation needs its characters and John is definltley one of those. Life would be very boring without people like him. As many have said, he is a practical engineer with a get it done attitude. The Bodgers Lodge thread is probably the most informative and enjoyable to read on here. If his posts come with soem ascerbic wit, then so be it. I have been on the end of one of his "clumsy b*" comments when I was brave even to share one of my mistakes (it may have nee on another forum) and it was taken with good humour.

I am an 84 yr old retiree -

I am a live-in carer for a friend who has Progressive M.S.,

this includes the cooking and looking after him

I am Organist of a local church with not only services on Sunday but

also funerals and weddings during the week.

I am diabetic and on insulin.

I do not possess an arm chair and I not have time to sit in one.

I have about one hour a day in the workshop and wish I had more.

So we do not all spend our days doing very little.

I'm sure there are thousands like me.

Pity you had to go back over the scan John. This would have been sorted from day one (a long time ago) wouldn't it???? How many clicks did it take, was it three or four?

Perhaps doing what you suggest John is just ONE of the critics inabilities?

Gordon Bennett!!! Talk about the law of unintended consequences! Perhaps I should have left well alone ? If I had thought all this hullabaloo was going to follow I could have tried 'cleaning up' the .jpgs myself - presumably open in Adobe Essentials and 'sharpen' or 'unsharp mask'? Certainly at 81+ I have the equipment and time to do so ... just didn't occur to me is all!

As to the MG versus JS debate, personally I follow both with similar enthusiasm; MG for his brain tickling depth of intellectual curiosity and JS for his extraordinary and demonstrated ability at a level of competence and confidence that I can only dream of ... plus his humour and generosity in sharing with us.

We, that is this forum, have already lost the input of one exceptional engineer (model or otherwise) Graham Meek, It would be quite ridiculous to find ourselves further depleted over something so trivial - please, chaps and chappesses, hang slack a bit - there's nothing earth-shattering going on here.

Thanks for doing it. The scan wasn't the best, but was readable & useful - and it's the information that's the important thing, not how pretty it is. It's a great deal more useful than not having it.

The early issues weren't the clearest of print and used coloured backgrounds and a fairly coarse screen that makes scanning difficult.

This thread has wandered far from its useful purpose, so I'm locking it..
