There are a lot of them about, the jaws and screw are very much like the leg vice items, it's the sort of thing a committee would design for the army if they asked for an improved vice.

I found one in my Dads shed when I had to clear it - didn't have the heart to get rid. Don't know where he got it from. Oddly enough, I rediscovered it last week!

From its patent as the "parallel vice" perhaps a bit of history. And yes, it is a decent vice.
