Hi Ian

Several people got personal messages explaining my decision including reasons I could not post without causing trouble.

On occasion I have contacted people by phone to explain decisions I have made where I could not put something in writing.

Please remember that I am employed and have to do what I think is right for my employer if I wish to remain in work.

regards David

I didn't get a pm from you David, either about this Ally Pali weather issue or about the posts you deleted on the Brunell thread. Your choice but a more detailed explanation would be nice, or you leave me and possibly others wondering why you are protecting Brunell.

My post on the Brunell thread was also deleted.

This was just a reply to tell Graham that he had signed in as the Alan Turner sock puppet lon on instead of his own name.

No idea why it got deleted but it did prove who Alan Turner really is.

Gray,

In the Burrell post some guy called Alan Turner came on defending Graham but it turns out that it was Graham because he was posting from the same IP address, what is known as a sock puppet.

Later in the post graham made a reply about doing his own castings but forgot to log on as graham and logged on as Alan Walker wink

I pointed this out and said repeat afer me, I am Graham , not Alan a few times with a smiley but David deleted the post for some reason ?

My "crime" was, having read the post (laughed out loud too) I replied with a smiley face.

For about a year now I follow the postings on this forum, not only because they are informative but also some are good and humorous reading, as were the ones now removed from the Brunell post.It is worrying, certainly on a UK forum, that comments which were not offensive in anyway are removed without any explanation .

I would just like to point out that this thread which, frankly, has very little to do with Model Engineering has attracted 70 replies and 5538 views.

A thread asking for technical assistance on Carbide brazing attracts 2 replies and 168 views.

Does this tell us anything?

Adrian

I think it tells us that people are concerned about the issues.

Also, it's nice to chat about life as well as engineering.

I'd hate to see a moderation policy where nobody was allowed to make any kind of negative comment about a sponsor.

Well seeing as you asked Kwil

Firstly I had no problem driving to AP, when I arrived there was a tractor with snow plough removing what little overnight snow had fallen in the car park and this was followed by a gritter, so the AP staff could not really have done any more.

As soon as I entered the hall I got the feeling that the aisles were wider and every thing seemed more spread out. The area given over to RC trucks and planes was also larger and at the opposite end of the hall there were more "train sets".smile p

All this can only mean one thing less stands and the proportion of those given over to clubs seemed larger than ever, take off the poundland type stalls and the usual drill that will cut everything and wonder varnish and you are left with very few l interest. There were really no completed models on display that really jumped out at me and I hardly took any photos as there was not much worth taking

I'd almost seen all I wanted in 1/2hr, bought what I wanted in the next 1/2hrs and then chatted with a couple of people I knew and was heading back down the hill at 12.00. I will seriously have to think about attending next year.

I hope this does not get moderated as it will show the event organisers that the show has continued to decline over the last 5-6 years that I have been going and hopefully they can learn from this to make things better in the future.

Jason,

I feel that it's sign of the times.

We only have to look to the news and in the two week Jessops, HMV and Blockbusters have gone belly up thru not moving with the times.

We are just as responsible on here.

A few years ago it would have been left to 5 people who could be bothered to put pen to paper and scribe a line. Then wait a fortnight for a reply from the 2 people who could be bothered.

Hi Chris J

What sponsor. We do not sponsor the other exhibition.

I can't see where sponsorship comes into it.

Jason I agree and that is why my grandson and I did not go we went 2 years ago and his comment when we eventualy found 2 chairs an extremely expensive beer and coke and when he looked at the menu said grandad that is 2 weeks pocket money,( and that is a lad who built at the age of 16 a sterling hot air engine in my workshop). and why is there so many people selling market stuff. No wonder people were hogging all the tables eating there own grub and drinks. We came down on our club coach with 35 bods but this year we had to drop the idea as we only got 5 names.

Oh my first posting on this wording would have been similar was deleted also so waited for the Berlin wall to fall.
Organisers I do hope that you will take this as constructive comments.

Please post comments about the show on the original Alexandra Palace thread.

It is now unmoderated.

I was discussing how things had developed on another forum.

A "sponsor" in my reply was an advertiser on that forum. The owner of the forum (a good friend of mine) would not allow any negative comments about one of his "sponsors" products.

I objected strongly on the grounds that it was supposed to be a place were like minded individuals could discuss good or bad service for the benefit of others. He didn't agree and as it was his forum his decision mattered more than mine.

I was saying that I would hate to see that develop on here because that is what some of the moderators actions (yours) indicated that. Therefore I think it would be better if you explained your actions to chaps like me smiley to help us understand and hopefully agree.

It's also of no practical use to those that would have liked details before attending, given that the show has now finished. That's what I meant when I said it (the censorship) was another example of business taking precedence over the interests of the people that happen to be their customers.

Only now are we able to see the views of some that did attend and weren't particularly impressed.

Martin.

Hi Blowlamp.

Nothing to do with business.

More to do with not getting complaints from a rival promoter.

I will not be doing censorship after the 31 January when I am no longer editor of Model Engineer.

Let's see if anyone else does.

regards David

My view is that you should have left that thread alone and let the promoters have their response here if they felt the need. Then we could have all been happy.

Martin.

They respond to my boss.

In the main, I would say contributors on this forum are the ones that buy your bosses products, so perhaps they are the ones that should be given the most consideration and your boss should realise that better than anyone.

After all, we are the people that write the articles, without which there would be no magazines and no website either.

Martin.
