![]() 62 forum posts 1 photos | Hi guys, what terrible times we are living in at the moment. For now CuP are open. Glen and I are working alternate days so we are observing social distancing. As Hopper says things are changing and this may certainly change after this weekend if conditions are tightened due to selfish idiots going out this Easter. However, we are confident we meet the guidelines for now so have every intention of carrying on. Carriers are calling every day (again observing distances) and we are posting orders every day. Hopefully we will see some light at the end of the tunnel shortly and some normality will return. Stay safe everyone.

Yes I tend to agree with Hopper that any company listed here will only be trading on the day posted and could be closedor operating differently tomorrow. Even the OP's mentions Macc being open yet from the other thread they are having difficulty soucing some items and possibly don't show what they actually have in stock when ordering so that part or tool you need urgently may not arrive for a week or two so you would have been better going elsewhere. As for the likes of Screwfix, try to use them only for emergency repairs and stay indoors getting materials for a bit of DIY during the lockdown is not essential IMHO J. Edited By JasonB on 08/04/2020 07:14:03 screwfix also have a delivery option, ordered on friday, could have had it delivered on Sat but chose Mon. only added £5 to bill. it was on my doorstep by 0900. well packaged - great service. DIY is essentiual if it keeps you from going doolally - i needed to get a 2mtr arial up at rooftop level, needed brackets, clamps etc - so! why not? it put no one in harms way (apart from me up a ladder at my age!). it did not involve being near anyone else. i think some people take the essential/non essential business a little too far? only my opinion though.

438 forum posts 2 photos | Hmm... some for the idea of a list ( those posting information) and some against, mostly because of the changing situation.I wonder if the one-man bands, locked up in their shops, might be safer and less likely to close than the larger firms with staff to consider? So lets try, if it's not useful we will only have lost a little time, and if it works the MEs can save time and phone calls etc and the suppliers might get more orders. The hobby depends on the small suppliers, if they are trying to stay open it would surely be useful know this. The list can only give a guide, and a phone call to confirm and order might be safer than ordering from a website which might just swallow your money for the duration if the firm is closed. So far we have:- Arc Euro Tools - Bearingboys Ltd - open Chronos - open CuP alloys -open EKP - open GLR- open GWR Fasteners -open Live Steam Models -open Macc models - open M Machine Metals - open Myford - open RGD tools - open Screwfix - open for pre-orders Toolstation - open for pre-orders Tracy tools - open Moderators, or someone with IT skills, is there an easier way to update the list than rewriting it as new info comes in? rod

It's a little academic for me which mailorder suppliers are open for business and which aren't because the postal service in my area is barely functioning; we haven't had any letters or parcels delivered for over a week though we are expecting several. Oh dear. I take it you are in a remote location. We are getting post ok in Leeds. Steve. Post in B'ham is variable between normal and 3 weeks late, we have a local sorting office 2 miles away. |

__ Myford are owned by RDG __ . Sorry, magpie, but I’m pretty sure that part ^^^ is [still] not true. Last time I looked at Companies House, it was clear that named individuals were involved in both companies BUT there is [was] no subsidiary relationship between the two Companies. MichaelG. . Happy to be corrected if you can show the evidence So in plain English then, are you saying that RDG and Myford are owned by the same people? Or what? |

![]() 1779 forum posts 1 photos | In the good old days, pre-WW2, Morris Motors was owned by William Morris. He then bought Wolseley, but kept it as a separate company in his personal ownership. Later he sold what was left of Wolseley to Morris Motors for a tidy sum. So, it is clear (to me) that although two firms can be owned by the same chap (or several chaps) they still count as separate companies, but it can also be that a firm can become the property of a different firm even if both firms are owned by the same person. Cheers, Tim |

438 forum posts 2 photos | Well, the idea of a list of ME suppliers open and closed seemed like a good one . I had thought, when I heard that Arc were closing, that others would follow. But, based on the information from everyone it seems most of the smaller suppliers are open and we don't really need a list. Thanks to everyone who supplied information to establish this "most suppliers are open" picture. Rod |

22 forum posts | I would like to take the opportunity to pay tribute to Tracy Tools for amazing service in the present circumstances. I placed a small order with them late on Thursday and it arrived safe and sound first thing this morning. Not only that but I ordered carbon steel taps and they have kindly substituted HSS at no additional cost. Such service deserves recognition, all the more so in these troubled times. Thank you all. I have also had similar excellent service from Chronos and Axminster in the past week. It shows how fortunate we are in this country with such dedicated suppliers, but also the service we enjoy from those who actually carry out the deliveries and are trying so hard to keep things going, our thanks should also be extended to them. I have no affiliation with Tracy Tools, Chronos or Axminster other than as a very satisfied customer. Allen |

Moderators, or someone with IT skills, is there an easier way to update the list than rewriting it as new info comes in? Best way is to quote it, select all, then hit the blue rubber 'remove formatting' icon and edit the list as I have done. I think many of the ones down as 'open' are actually mail order only so if anyone who knows can update, please do. That way the right info is at the latest post. Neil |
