You didn't mention how you machined the internal teeth. The acrylic test doesn't give the game away. Did you use an end mill, a slotting attachment, file......?

We should be told!

Depends if Neil answers my e-mail asking if he wants it written up for the magwink 2

But if you know where to look it can be found on the net on one of the forums where people make things

I've just been cutting some 70mm x 20mm flat bar up, to make a new ball turner.

I had a quick check with a square that the bandsaw was set square. Cut the first bit off, went to the mill to clean up the sawn edge. It cleaned up within .008"!!!! I was well happy! Set the saw going on the next bit, thinking about gloating later on here about how good the bandsaw is!

Next 3 bits came out about 60 thou out of square.......

What's that saying about pride before a fall. though I'm sure there is a better suited saying.......

I can't find your email... answer is probably yes

As for me, an extremely unusual setup to skim a 0.5mm cut off about seven inches of 2 1/4"c aluminium tube.

Nice finish with a single cut using a CCGT insert, very faint striations, but feels absolutely smooth.

Bored out to 2" (actually 50.85mm) with a heavy duty HSS boring bar.

The long overhang (of the tube) was causing resonances so I finished with a long, slow shallow cut with my hand resting on the outside of the oily tube as a damper. Worked!

Ooh. 2 tenth's oversize. Gonna need to swage that down to fit. cheeky

It's wonderfully satisfying when something comes out so well, especially when working 'between units'.

I've made a little more progress on the 1858 Burrell-Boydell. I wasn't happy with the original flywheel and a request on "Home Workshop" brought this casting from a few miles from where I live.

The crankshaft and eccentrics were a little tricky as the crankshaft had to be silver soldered whilst leaving the eccentrics free.

I still need to silver solder the cylinder assembly but need a good day to do it outside because of the low ceiling in my workshop.

With Stew Hart's Popcorn engine finished -

Popcorn finished 2.jpg

it was time to make a start on Ray HasBrouck's No3 Rocking Valve engine. I purchased the book containing the drawings a while ago and yesterday I gathered the main materials to make a start (there may be a few bits left over at the end).

Hasbrouck materials.jpg

It is a small, fairly straightforward design and shouldn't pose any difficulty (famous last words!), I've even bought in a flywheel. I chose this engine because I dont have such a valve mechanism in my collection.

Today I've made a start on the cylinder block.
