Thread: WHERE ARE THE SHAPER USERS ? |
20/03/2021 22:31:18 |
Vertical feed is obtained by sliding the sleeve gear from its shaft and refitting it to the lower vacant shaft. Will try to take photos tomorrow. |
Thread: 3-Jaw Chuck not running true - how to fix |
20/03/2021 22:24:38 |
Why not try to resurrect it by grinding the jaws. In a previous issue of MEW it shows how to make a petal plate and from personal experience it’s nothing short of brilliant. I have done 3 chucks and have also lent it to 3 others who were really pleased with the results, what have you got to lose?

Try Machinery Handbook. I have done it a couple of times for internal handlebar controls for vintage American bikes, it’s a bit of a faff but involves gearing your workpiece to handwheel turns which in turn ( sorry) moves the x direction giving you you’re spiral which self ejects saving your pinkies |

Thread: Poor Surface finish |
15/03/2021 23:41:21 |
Ace, you don’t say how much material is sticking out of the chuck which can be a factor or if your chuck jaws are not bellmouthed, try reducing spindle speed or use a centre if the stock is long. |
Thread: HydroVane PR303E question |

Make yourself a “clickspring” one they are extremely good on brass, one cutting edge and zero rake. Made myself 3 in different sizes and only use them on brass MAGIC. |

Thread: What tool to measure small bores? |
01/03/2021 19:04:46 |
Just out of interest are you hoping to press fit these bearings if so be very wary as even a micron underbored on a 4 mm bearing will shorten its life by a large amount. Much better to make them a very light fit or sliding with bearing fit, this way the outer race is not over stressed. This info came from a clock man who realised pressed in small bearings started to bind and increase friction. Hope this helps.
