Also Remember the gear you have marked "57" can be turned around, usually only when screw cutting. Your picture shows gearbox in fine feed mode, hope this helps. |

Martin I agree, Consider Lathe's with a slant bed. |

I would serious worry about using a lathe on castors, when a faceplate was being used and out of balance. Also when I was an apprentice i cannot recall any lathe being on castors, they were all secured to the floor. |

I agree with Neil, there no shims to adjust the height of the saddle, the only shims used are for the saddle strip. One of restrictions on regrinding the bed is the rack. Myford use to say 10 thou, as this is the amount of movement the rack can be moved up to re engage with the pinion. Remember regrinding the bed involves repositioning both rack & Leadscrew. PS I had all these questions rebuilding a S7 many years ago but was fortunate to live not to far away from Myford so use to go to buy parts then go into the workshop and ask the fitters "how do you do this then", they were always very accommodating. I can also recall asking how old is my lathe, and this gentlemen went of upstairs in the fitters shop came back with a notebook with every machine serial no date and who originally bought it recorded. I wish i knew where that book is now |

Check the Grub screw item 174 in Myford gearbox manual, this secures a 26 Tooth gear which is the primary drive into the gearbox. |

I Recall this method of using a tap to cut a worm wheel was used in an article in MEW some time ago, The article was precise angle adjustment of the table on the Worden T&C Grinder I tried it out worked beautifully. Edited By JasonB on 19/08/2021 20:47:10 |

You just need 34 & 33 Teeth Gears , then follow the chart for gearbox settings. These Gears fit onto the Tumbler or (Chart says Mandrel) the same thing, Hope this helps |

Consider how you would eject the taper from the router spindle. The collet nut not only close's the collet but also ejects the split collet.

I too will miss your input to the forum, i myself find them very interesting, although i do understand how you must feel. I have been a forum member for quite some time but don't post much as i find people are ridiculed by experts! . Silly me thinking this was a hobby and a forum to exchange ideas and help each other. A word of caution about changing motor speeds and acceleration , be careful as not getting these set proportionally can effect your tool path.I had a problem cutting a rectangle with square corners, I kept getting rounded corners(radius). drove me nuts endless checking of software. Eventually found it was my speed and exceleration was causing the problem too slow acceleration, mach3 has decelerate and accelerate when changing direction hence round corners. Hope this is of some help to anyone

Thread: Chester 626 Mill Column |
23/08/2018 21:42:57 |
Hello Thought it about time I introduced myself been lurking in the back ground for some time now. I have a myford super 7 and chester 626, I am probably a bit of a myford nut something to do with my school days, Athough I do like colchesters tech and apprenticeship days. Now retired I have had the chester mill for about 10 years now, I have a question? the spindle can be rotated +-45 deg's from vertical and I can understand why ie milling v'ees or drilling holes at an an angle. However the turret can be rotated +-45 deg's, my question is why would you want to do this? I have never found a reason to move it, the spindle just becomes further away from the table Phil Edited By Neil Wyatt on 25/08/2018 19:41:30 |
