Something I have said for a long while is that the software is getting better day by day.

Long gone are the views that you have to make a 1000 off to warrent CNC.

It's getting so simple it's easier to darw a part and machine it than start to knife and fork it from a solid piece.

I have doubts about this stuff

Even people struggle to do it

(Would be happy to be proved wrong)

If computers were that "smart" every pdf would be searchable, since it only has to interpret text

We haven't even got OCR sussed out yet (optical character recognition)

PDF's are searchable if the person doing the job does it right.

OCR is sussed out, just not at the three and sixpence level.

Tnank you, Clive. The 3D model-making was interesting BUT one of the accompanying YouTube clips re. the capabilities of quadracopters was totally mind-boggling - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w2itwFJCgFQ... apologies if that is a crap way of inserting a link!

If you click on the advanced search options for google, you can tell it to only search pdfs.

Latest versions of acrobat will serach all the pdfs in a location on your computer for a phrase. Great for trawling datasheets.

Bill,

One has to be so careful with YouTube, one interesting video leads to another then another then another ...

but in this case, those quadcopters are absolutely fascinating and definitely worth the time to watch, the software behind them is amazing.

Thanks for the link, fixed here **LINK** to encourage others to take a look and be astounded!

I second that, WOW. Three quad working together at about 10:13 ish.

Clivse, I agree it is very easy to loose time while viewing interesting content on YouTube.

I've had '123D Catch' on both my iPad and iPhone for ages.

This photo app takes a series of photos and converts them into a 3-D model.

Not sure how it compares though, but '123D Catch' does require lots of photos to be taken.

Geoff - Nothing new, just improves..
