Does anyone know what has happened to Model Engineering Services?
Their homepage http://lawm.freeserve.co.uk shows just a blank page. Have they ceased trading?
Does anyone else in the UK supply Quorn castings?

Does anyone have any Quorn castings that are 'surplus to requirements' I am looking for the Mk2 wheelhead castings.

regards

Graeme

I just had a look at the page, and it's not quite blank - it's showing their old background (squared) - all of which makes me wonder whether they are just in the process of doing an update to it? Their phone number is 01246 433218, and that would probably reveal more...

Thanks Steve, I'll give them a call tomorrow. The page has been lke that for a while now and none of the sub-pages seem to exist. So maybe they are in to process of updating.

Hello All

Just to update, I managed to contact Mr Law this morning with reference to Quorn Castings

The news
- Currently there are new sets of castings being made
- A new website will be launched with a new address very soon
- The day to day admin of the business will be taken over by Mr Law's son

Mr Law was on fine form when I spoke to him this morning !

Well that's good to know. I didn't like the idea that the only apparent supplier of Quorn castings had disappeared without trace - should I feel the urge to make one! Thanks for reporting back.

Spoken to Mr Law today, they are still waiting for 'complete' sets of castings to be supplied from the foundry.
Once they have sufficient stock to supply their expected demand (which from talking to him would seem quite a significant amount), they will then publish the new website.

I am hoping to get in touch with Mr Law's son by email shortly as he will be running the business and website going forward.

As soon as I know more, I will update this thread.

The biggest problem they are up against is getting the foundry to produce full sets of castings, as he quite rightly states, its no use havin 14 out of a set of 15 castings equired to build the Quorn!

Hello

Just wanted to check if there is any more news on castings. I have an incomplete kit that I'd like to "top up". I'm also unable to get onto the old web address at all.

Thanks Paul

Hi Paul,

Unfortunately, I have not been able to contact Mr Law or his son recently.

If I hear anything I will certainly let all know.

regards

Graeme

Hi All,

An update on Model Engineering Services:

I spoke with Michael Law this afternoon who is in the process of re-launching MES (I also had a very pleaseant chat with Ivan prior to this smiley).

Michael has a small number of sets of Quorn castings available and for those who are genuinely interested, please PM me and I will put you in touch with him.

Michael expects to re-launch the site in the next 2 - 3 months, other commitments permitting and subject to the availability of the casting kits he plans to sell.

Unlike before, MES will only be selling casting kits and not complete materiel kits as they feel this brings the price into a better marketplace and as most of us have reasonable access to bar stock etc, the opinion is that it is more viable to supply casting only kits.A

Sounds very promising, I will post any further info as soon as I have it.

regards

Graeme

This is an old posting but I want to buy a set of Quorn castings. Have checked the previous link but it's not Model Engineering Service based in Chesterfield. Anybody have an update regarding supply of castings?

Thanks,

Alan.

I've dropped an email to Mike Law, but the last time I asked him he was non-committal.

Someone has done a redesign of the Quorn to make it out of stock materials. I'm sure the drawings are on the interweb, search for Bonelle. There are some photos here

I've just heard back from Mike Law. Carrying on with MES was just getting in the way of being able to do model engineering, so they have stopped promoting the products and only have a few castings left.

The good news is that the remaining Quorn castings and patterns have been passed to a well-known UK supplier who will market them once they have got stocks of full sets of castings.

So, watch this space...

must admit the first one wouldn't open for me, and as I don't do the 3D CAD I can't comment on the second
