I have an early Greenwood 'Q-cut' Mk 2 parting-off tool. Now Greenwood is gone, I need to find an alternative source for the inserts. Can anyone point me in the right direction, please ?

The insert is a Sandvic QD-NF-0250-0002-CM 1125. Pop that into google for suppliers though finding singles may be a problem.

Hi Bob, This post may help.

Be aware that there were two versions of the tool produced. The post to which you refer relates to the Mark I version and the insert code mentioned there (151.2 etc.) only fits that version.

This thread is about the Mark II version, taking a different insert code, the one mentioned by JasonB.

Have a look at JB Cutting Tools, or Arc Euro.

They may have suitable alternatives.

JB seems to be exclusively selling via Ebay these days (and in person at shows).

I thought that in the Mk 1 the insert was retained by a screw ? Anyway, a picture being worth a thousand words, here is the Q-cut in question :-

That's the one the code I posted fits, same 1125 on the insert as at the end of the code

I'm note sure if there was an official mk I or II designation. Back in 2018 Greenwood were advertising the new KIT-QD version. I approached Greenwood at the Midland show and bought a couple of the previous model (1125) tips for my KIT-Q-CUT. The Q cut works very well but e.g. ARC sell similar systems and they work fine for considerably less money. When my last Q cut tip dies I will transfer my affections to a cheaper system for my rear toolpost.

I believe the 1125 is only the carbide grade. That insert will not fit the one in his picture.

The one pictured is not what I would call a Mark 2 version. The insert for the one pictured is the 151.2 code, similar to the one here:

https://www.zoro.co.uk/shop/cutting-tools/parting-inserts/n151-2-250-5e-insert-grade-1145/p/ZT1006152P

It is the newer version that takes the QD NF insert, pictured here:

You could be right, just took another look at the one Greenwood had for sale yesterday and the hole the insert goes into is different being one that is spread open by the tool rather than the tool just pushing the insert out.

Ouch, £160 for a minimum of 10 surprise Does anyone know of a source of single inserts ?

Incidentally - the tool is 2-7/8" long, and the insert 3/8" long.

Just to confuse the issue, I have one of the "pipless" slanted tips which has 4125 engraved on it.

I Have the same tool purchased from Greenwood some 10 years ago. I bought 10 inserts at the same time. Pic of tool and insert pack below. Fortunately the inserts last for ages but I am now running out as well......

Good find but, sadly, need to be ordered in boxes of ten sad. I'm glad to see they are still available. I could do with a couple of spare tips. I'd be happy to buy a box of ten and split them at cost if anybody is interested.

Many apologies, felt sure I’d bought them individually many years ago when I also bought a sandvik parting tool blade from RileyShutt as mine from greenwood was becoming a bit tired and prone to losing grip on the insert.

The double ended sandvik one can be cut in half, drilled and countersunk to replace the greenwood sourced items, the result is blade a bit shorter overall but it still parts off the same diameter. (This was sometime before sandvik QD arrived)
