Elliot 10M shaper, Myford S7 and Clarkson t&c grinder all at auction 5 hours to go on MST auctions at Honiton, lots 604 605 and 606. Good prices so far ! Noel.

The S7 is listed as GAP BED with gap section missing - Strange it looks like mine, may be my bed section is missing ? Ha HA .

Tsk tsk hardly worth anything then if the essential gap is missing.

Cut the rest of the bed off and turn it into a cutter grinder. It will be useless without a gap.

They are all gap bed without the infill. It's the bit under the chuck that does not effect any using of the lathe.

Steve, I’ve just looked at you albums and you’re right I see your Myford also has the gap missing. Someone somewhere is probably sitting on a load of gaps they don’t know what to do with.

I heard that Myford removed each gap piece before delivery so the customer did not get to see the rust on itdevil

I thought it was to save having to machine the 9" face plate to make it fit ? Noel.

Even this rare left-handed Super 7 has a missing gap piece. Very careless of the owner - they're impossible to replace.

Did Myford lathes even have a gap-piece?

I see no sign of any location for such a fitting on my ML7, and the floor of the gap is in fettled-cast state, under the paint..

Ooooh, that's very unsettling having that left-handed Myford in the top edge of my eye-line as I type this. It forms a strange sort of optical illusion I can't quite wind my brain around!

No … I believe that was the whole point of Noel’s opening joke

But jokes stop being funny if you have to explain them

I'm surprised they are missing from UK ones. Obviously ones shipped to Australia the gap piece fell out when they tried to use it upside down. Not to worry though as Jason will show how to fill the gaps with JB weld.

Not to worry though as Jason will show how to fill the gaps with JB weld............... and it will obviously be a fabricated gap piece not a casting.devil

With no legs of the carriage extending left from the edge of the cross slide the Myfords can get away with no gap piece but a lot of lathes have at least the front leg extended out a couple of inches so without a gap piece you end up with some of the carriage in mid air. Would certainly be the case with mine as I quite often park it with the carriage touching the headstock when using the tailstock die holder for example

Lucky blighter! But wait until he gets it home and realises the gap is missing. That'll wipe the smirk off his face.

It might have finished at £290 but be warned ! the fees added and vat can see the price increase by 44% ! Noel.

Interestingly MST list '24% inc VAT, inc buyers premium and internet surcharges' so a tad under £360 total if my arithmetic is correct. Still not a bad price for an S7, even with very limited tooling and missing a toolpost.

For anyone interested. I have a large number of ML7 gaps for sale. All brand new OEM items. Sales are cash only and payment must be made in three dollar notes, AUD only. Shipping is included but purchaser is responsible for all import fees and duties, where applicable. Due to expected high demand it is anticipated that some orders may not be completed until 1/4/23 so your patience and understanding would be appreciated.
