Hello all. I have been signed up for a while now, so its about time I made a post.

I have a Optimum 2304 lathe and recently borrowed a Dore-Westbury MK1 mill which is having much needed attention.

Hoping to build some steam engines and maybe a small Loco.

Also a friend of mine bought a Royal Chester traction engine kit that has had a few parts machined and expects me to build it for him !! Yes he is mad lol. Also hence the borrowed D,W. from him

Hope I will be an active member although with more questions than help for others

Jon

Hello and welcome Jon from sunny Derbyshire, yes, the sun is shining as I type but there are some VERY black clouds in sight!

Apart from seaside resorts, the only places I know in Norfolk are the Forncett St Mary Steam Museum and Kings Lynne.

If you have any questions just ask them on here and someone will almost certainly be along with an answer.

Happier New Year

Brian

Another welcome from 'Sunny Suffolk' Jonathan - wet it may be but sunny in nature from on the border.

Enjoy your modelling whatever direction it takes you.

Hi Brian, I'm sure you mean King's Lynn, but I'd be surprised if you haven't heard of Norwich or Sandringham.

Regards Nick.

Greetings from Dorset, where the pattering on the windows suggests we're having the gardens watered and ponds topped up at the moment!

Thanks for all the replies !!

Aaahhh, my mistake. Spent so long with the light on I mistook it for the sun. LOL

Yep it's rather dismal here too. Garden is like a bog.

Glad you lot have a sense of humour, I'm sure we will get on fine.

For those who asked (Noel), I'm not far from Cromer.

Cheers

Jon

Hi Jon, you did know that W.J.Hughes wrote a book on building this engine in 1.5" scale back in 1977 ? ISBN 0 85242 635 5. Noel.

A former working colleague, with a well equipped workshop used to live in Heacham. He used to contribute to Model Engineer. Noel might know him?

There used to be a splendid model Showman's Engine, and a half scale Foden C type lorry in Heacham, owned by other members of his family..

But have lost contact with him. Since we are both far from young, he may have gone to better things.

KIngs Lynn M E S used to exhibit at the Spalding Show, before the organiser gave up. They meet at Lynnsport, I believe.

Howard is correct ! The gentleman he referes to is David Plumb ! The showman enngine was a 6" burrell named Lady Ellna owned by his son. Kings Lynn MES still operates and meet at the track at Lynnsport most Wednesday mornings. Closer to you is, or was North Norfolk MES who used to meet at Holt, this is from memory and may be incorrect now . Noel.
