This might amuse you. A German speed metal band called "Rage" has claimed that the soundtrack on my YouTube video showing the action of a Eureka form relieving device has infringed their musical copyright. Apparently the "music" to be heard between 1:16 and 2.18 minutes was composed by them. What do you think?

After I challenged their claim they still maintain that their copyright has been infringed !

Rod

Rats, typo in the title angry

Probably a dodgy algorithm, spotting some match undetectable to human ears. It'll be done automatically, probably by the record label. Welcome to the future...

When did you make the video? They might be infringing your copyright!

My thoughts exactly. I "shazamed" my video but it failed to identify any music...

It's apparently a big thing, a YouTuber my daughter watches (video games) was hit with more than 200 infringement notices overnight, each of which he had to deal with individually. This was despite his having written permission from the composer/artist to use their work.

Could be even more underhanded, the add revenue from the videos will now go to the claimant iirc. It would be worth striking against hundreds of vids, some would be disputed but many wouldnt....

I've watched a few German machining videos and if you put the sub-tiles on it often come up with "music" when the machines are cutting

If you didn't copy, it's not copyright infringement. Copyright is a very limited form of protection, but of course effective if an exact copy is necessary in order to make money - as in copying a book which is within the copyright term.. However, you cannot stop somebody commencing a legal action, even on spurious grounds - so be prepared to state how your rights to the soundtrack came into existence, eg by composition, licence, agreement etc.

I am very glad to hear 1) You have heard of Shazam 2) You used Shazam as a verb 3) It did not match

I am afraid my grubby fingerprints are all over the Shazam recognition system.

The Google system and the Soundhound system are both prone to odd matches, I would blame one of them. devil
