Despite assurances to the contrary: I would think that Dave is right, and it’s something to do with Ad Blocking ... The opening screen-shot shows no sign of the sponsor’s banner advertisement. 10668 forum posts 2415 photos | I'm using Ubuntu 19.10 with Firefox 74.0 (64-bit). In addition to Firefoxes built-in privacy checker, I have AdBlockPlus and PrivacyBadger. With AdBlockPlus set to allow adverts on this site I get: Note Chronos banner ad at top and the Machine DRO ad positioned before correctly positioned 'Thread heading looking weird'. All good. When I forbid adverts on this site with AdBlockPlus, those two are zapped and the page formats oddly. The Firefox addons that control privacy are highlighted in the red oval top right. Too small to read, but AdBlockPlus has blocked 9 things on this page, PrivacyBadger 4, and Firefox 3. (The checkers overlap; it's not 16 different issues, and - on this website - they're pretty innocent.) Being on Linux, I'm controlling these things with browser settings. Windows users may find adblocking is being done by their Anti-virus software; most AVM packkages have 'web protection' features. Spent my career in IT and still get surprised by different ways the same job can be done. When installing security software it's usually best to go with supplier defaults, which tend to 'better safe than sorry. So it's not unlikely people have agreed to block things without realising it. Have a look at the AVM and other security settings, it should be possible to fine tune them. I don't believe the forum is faulty. Dave

912 forum posts 3 photos | Same problem here: Linux and Firefox, AdblockPlus on or off, so difficult to understand why Adblock Plus is thought to be the culprit. Quite a lot of scripts blocked, most being trackers or site analytics, and, of course Farcebook, which pokes its unwelcome nose into everything. So this site can be assumed to be seeking revenue (or some other advantage) by selling our details or trying to force us to see advertisements. I'm not going to allow scripts just to clear what seems to be a minor formatting problem. I hate any attempt to force my machine to do what I don't want it to do, particularly when there's no way of knowing what the script actually does. All these unnecessary scripts make me mad! |

327 forum posts 1 photos | Do people only read the last post in these threads or what? Several people have noted that disabling Adblocker has no effect - the problem is still there, yet people make definitive statements that the problem is due to Adblocker. Maybe it is on your machine, but as someone else noted, it is worth noting your hardware/software/browser, then someone who know what they are doing may see the connection. It has happened to me, yet I have made absolutely no changes to my software, not even an update (and I don't use Windows, so it didn't happen in the background), but the problem suddenly appeared on my machine - I am more suspicious that some other site has done something I don't know about. |

+1 for disabling AdBlock has NO effect. Win-8.1 Firefox 68.6.0esr Vivaldi (no ad blocking and no other ad-ons) works OK .... but then I get that flashing ad ... yuk, drives me nuts .... I way prefer the screwed up header. Edited By Bandersnatch on 27/03/2020 15:00:23 |
