Girl? You're game.

A very skilled young woman, to be sure.

She is isn't she. Very skilled at what she does. Probably cannot cook a good steak but can she wield that lathe.

Very impressed, she has a pleasant voice, speaks clearly and is obviously very skilled and a good teacher. Much better than a lot of teaching videos I have watched and excellent for the beginner. I have watched 2 or 3 of her videos and picked up some good tips and some good tool projects, will have to watch some more.

Better than most videos, gets to the point and doesn't spend ages waffling.

Brilliantly simple first project too yet with a practical application.

She is very well spoken too, like Lyle Petersen is. And obviously intelligent and capable. Whats not to like?

As a novice I've found her videos for beginners to be very helpful. I enjoy the entertainment value of the popular youtube machinist channels (Abom, This Old Tony, et el), but Quinn's equipment and projects are much more appropriate for my level of experience.

She did a great video on parting and for a complete newbie like me it was a revelation. Parting was always my arch nemesis. I’m still not an expert but have become better at eliminating the variables that cause parting woes. Thanks to Blondihacks.

Well I have to watch some more of her vid's later. Have seen most of others on youtube. Steve Jordan does some good stuff but god he is so slow speaking. Also he is obviously connected to bang good. I think they get all there stuff free for doing a revue. Not bad. It's funny he says. This piston type toolpost is the best there is. Next video this wedge type gib toolpost is the best there is. MMM. I am an amateur with a deep engineering experience of things like engine building & tuning Inc motorcycles. Anything from my 1st 14 year old project of stripping & race tuning a Villiers 2T engine at school. Teacher did not have an idea what I was doing but admired the work I did. I used to build big block chevy engines for racing. Much more too. The point is I am an amateur when it comes to working with a lathe & now well retired am enjoying using the lathe & watching masters at work. I am also making flowers from metal & coin rings. The lathe will be a boon for the ring making & some projects needed to make ring mandrels. Anyway going to watch some more youtube . This is one of the best forums I have come across with so much information available. If you look for steviegtr on youtube I have done a few posts of anything garage & plan to do a lot more inc revues of my Ftype V8 out on the road. Done some of the Ducati already but need editing for youtube.

Steve.

So I saw this video. The information is amazing. Just the subject on cutting tools. Even if you are a pro with a lathe I think this will interest you. 1 1/2 hrs long.

Well I don't know. I can cook a decent steak (and a not-half-bad curry too) so the two can't be mutually exclusive.

Regrettably, this is the sort of flippant remark my daughter has to put up with both at work and elsewhere, and an attitude that a century and more of women in engineering has failed to shift. For the record, she is a qualified, skilled and experienced practical engineer, and a good cook.

She is also a trained and active semi-professional classical singer, which causes much amazement among her colleagues, many of whom don't exert themselves beyond drink and take-aways.
