In need of a steel ring 132mm dia

hi, the time as long gone when I could find most of the material I needed in the scrap skips outside most manufacturing companies. I now find myself needing a 132mm Dia by 15mm steel ring. But how no idea where to look. I know it will need to be rolled out, but it’s far too much for my slip rollers to deal with as the ring needs to take a thread so needs to be 5mm thick or more. The companies my way are not interested or are asking silly money. Anyone have any ideas. Thanks

Rather than rolling some flat it might be easier to cut off a section of tube, somewhere like metalsupermarket might be able to help. Or ask at your local pipe fitting stockist, they usually hold stock up to 6” dia, you might find a straight coupler that fits the bill, 5” schedule 40 is around the size you need, wall will be around 6mm

Thanks, but the problem is that I can’t find anyone who sells tube the dia I want with a good wall thickness. And they all have a min length I need to buy if they did.

You might be able to buy a steel pipe flange and turn the OD to 132mm then bore out the middle to size. Lot of swarf though.

Or pay the money to get a piece of 15mm plate cut in a circle laser cut or waterjetted to rough size.

I would look at laser or flame cutting a blank. Where are you ? plenty of places here in the Midlands at good prices.

Terry This is a classic case of where are you, my slip rolls will handle 6 by 20 strip. All so a good reason to belong to a club we have several sets of rolls a large scrap box plus many members willing to help. The club is Cambridge.

The seller of ebay item no. 264266744373 may be able to help, some of his listings have a mobile number if you want something custom.

There are several suppliers of discs and rings for sale on ebay, just like F W B's example. If you look at the picture, you will notice that the cut is started inboard of the diameter, which may be a problem. The example shown would probably clean up to your required diameter. The thickness might not be enough if you want 15mm finished. I have bought several rings which saved a lot of machining, you just have to look through the whole lot for the sizes required.

The way I read the OP is that the strip would need rolling edge on, so you end up with a ring 132mm OD, ~5mm thick and with a 102mm hole.

As in a 5mm washer? I think a piece of 6mm plate, as a starting point, would suffice for that.

That's the way I read it, and I'd also start with 6mm plate, but I already have some in stock, left over from the traction engine hornplates. A sketch, or confirmation that I haven't gone off at a tangent, from the OP would be good.

m-machine sell tube 135mm OD x 120mm ID and 5 3/4" OD x 5" ID by the inch.

I beg to differ. If you had explained you were looking for why were so many of the people that tried to help having to make assumptions and guesses.

My comment, which was only slightly sarcastic and hardly underhand, could have been worded better. It was not your original post I was referring to, but to the fact that when you said it was sorted, did not explain then.
