Hi I happen to work for the company that still make the modern version (Bernhard & co). The cylinder or real is mounted in the two bronze bearings and slowly rotated and the grinding wheel is rotated and moved along the large slotted shaft. One of my jobs is to put the slots in the shaft of the modern machines, if you can find a serial no we have all the order books and should be able to find the manufacture date and customer. Hope this helps Paul |

Food for thought many of the larger model dealers stock there shelves from the auction houses, but if you buy from a dealer you get some form of garantee or a try before you buy. I was out bid on a small model only to see it listed on ebay for twice the price and sold. Paul |

Thread: What is a 'Gedge Flat' as seen on certain railway couplings? |
03/11/2022 22:02:22 |
Roche is correct the drawing says details LMS Locos these did not have a gedge the couplings had a slot in them so the eye of a coupling shackle could pass through it. I hope this makes sence, gedges were normaly only used on freight stock. Paul |

Thread: Tufnol or tufnol substitute |
18/07/2022 19:37:24 |
Hi I have used tufnol for springs, the correct type is the sort made with canvas (not paper) the finer type it has the name of a fish possibly carp. As for temperature try 120 C rolled in a tin, the tin is used to not take to must heat from the oven it will spring back so you need a tighter radius. You could use bronze and if to stif machine a stot in the middle. Paul |

Thread: boiler connector |
26/05/2022 19:11:53 |
Hi Duncan Try looking on R.S. components for mate&lock. If it helps you can get the pins out we used the special tool but a simple thin wall tube turned up on the lathe works well it should be a good fit on the pin to close the barbs in then pull on the wire. Paul |
