Hello Michael, I have lived in France in Lot et Garonne for 3 years now and have found the same problem, very little or no interest in model engineering. I believe it may be different in Northern France in the old industrial belt. Sorry to be so negative but that seems to be the way it is.

There was a contributor with a French name, Yves Rayssiguier: see MEWs 27 and 50. He seems not to be a member although there are three other Yves.

JES, no you are among the sane, it's the X million others that are a bit the other way, and it's not that there are no engineers in France.

Michael, welcome to the mad house.

I've asked around the NIce area and got strange looks. Lots of people into helicopters and aeroplanes and a few boats, all from kits. When you have such wonderful weather why would you want to spend time in a shed. John

Bonjour Michael,

Where abouts in France are you? I'm in the Pyrenees Orientale.

There is a National club, the CAV **LINK** they have members over most of France. Most activity takes place in northern regions.

I am glad it is not just me that has noticed a distinct lack of interest over here! I live in the vienne about 30kms south of poitiers.Maybe it is modern day trend in leisure time that fewer people are hiding in sheds making things like they used to or is it a generation thing related to schools etc not teaching metalwork or similar skills for many a year?

A few years ago there was an association MODELEXPO based near you in Neuville de Poitou.

I think interests have moved away from pure metalwork to more general construction methods. There is a makerspace (FabLab) near us in Perpignan where non members can, for a small fee, use 3D printers, laser cutters, vacuum former, computers and an electronics lab. Not much metalwork other than hand tools.

Hi Michael, I'm new to this forum but I live about 60km's south of Poitiers. If you like to we can meet up sometime.

I was a very big fan of making models of whatever, nowadays I go for the real things. LOL! Now I have build my own 3D printer and can make whatever I want as long as it's in plastic.

I just signed up to this site, I'm Dutch but living in France for the last 12 years. The trick in France is to learn the language and mingle with the locals. That way you'll get all inside information and be sure there are a lot of fanatic model builders around in this area.

Although many Forum members don't like the idea, including a few details in your profile might help too Michael.

Absolutely! Just click "settings" at the top of this page and fill in your credentials.

It took a bit for me to find it but it's there.

Then, why not click on 'My Profile' to add the stuff you hide under your bushel?
