51 forum posts 7 photos | I am sure most members of this forum will know of the failure of the Ebor Flyer on 14th April. Unless I am missing something I am surprised there has been no comment on here. May I ask posters to not glory in the failure of this the first steam loco built from scratch since the end of BR steam. |

1297 forum posts 50 photos | As a commuter, I spent 41 miserable years travelling by train daily. As a result, and having now retired, I for one do not have much interest in full sized trains, steam or not! |

I thought it was exciting, no one else does! Tornado's a fine engine, but like any other machine, things can and do go wrong. Might be interesting if they can't fix it. Bet they do though! |

I suppose we are not all into locos, did not know of it myself. I'm pretty sure this is the "Live Steam Locomotive" forum. I would have thought that everyone reading this forum was interested in live steam locomotives. I think the story about the failure of the "Tornado" is pretty interesting. David |

![]() 149 forum posts 43 photos | Road locomotives, that's a good one! For most folks, locomotive means railroad. As it turns out, there is a forum here just for "road locomotives". You'll find it if you look for " traction engine". There is no forum for road locomotives. David |

![]() 25215 forum posts 3105 photos 1 articles | A Road Loco is a particular type of traction engine, one primerily used on the road. I would also say that "Railroad" is only used to refer to a locomotive to people from certain countries. My comment was based on the whole forum, as the OP said "on here", most people don't look at what topic a post is placed under they just look at latest posts. Quite likely those interested in aircraft may well have seen the heading and clicked on it. Model engineering is a wide and varied hobby, and even wider if you include the home workshop that is not used for model making. If you want to talk to people who think ME revolves around just trains then there are forums where they gather J Edited By JasonB on 06/06/2018 07:33:16 |

![]() 19226 forum posts 749 photos 86 articles | Technically this is the 'live steam locomotives' sub-topic under the 'model engineering' topic. Perhaps full size railways should be in the 'Tea Room' with 'Aircraft General Discussion'? Curiously, given how much it's talked about, we don't have a topic/sub-topic for full size engineering! The correct terms are 'railway locomotives' and 'road locomotives' Traction engines are a very specific type of road locomotive, the steam equivalent of a tractor unit (which are those things you see pulling semi-trailers around our motorways. Oh! Joy of Pedantry

1505 forum posts 56 photos | Back to our previous program:- I had assumed that the piston valves would have rings. Does seizure imply insufficient clearance for the valve pistons themselves or possibly insufficient ring gaps. I'd a thunk that a lubrication failure would result in excess wear rather than seizure. Oh well, It'll be interesting to see what the report says. [PEDANT MODE] Live steam locomotive subforum [/PEDANT MODE] Edited By Mark Rand on 06/06/2018 11:05:44 |
