Trouble finding brass H and I columbs and beams

Good evening everyone.

I am building a colliery headgear from the pit that I worked in. It was not lattice work but consisted of H section columns and I beams.

I cannot seem to locate really good quality sections.

Is it ok to ask on this forum about suppliers that members know of or is this not allowed?

many thanks

Gareth

Have you tried some of the model shops as opposed to model engineering outlets ?

Would this bunch do what you need?

Never used them myself, but someone else on here linked to their shop, which I saved as looking useful...

Edit: If you go up a level in their shop they do metric and imperial, but also tiny angle (equal or not) and channels etc too.

Gareth,

I assume that you are in the UK, but if you get really stuck, these people do I-section and H-section in brass.

Their web site, from where you can download their (very extensive) catalogue:

The stuff you want is on page 53. I've not used them myself, but found them while living in France.

Try a glazing supplier, we used a lot of brass H and U for stained glass, as an alternative to lead cambs.

If you can find any. Curtain rail used to be brass.

Its very old school though.

I remember curtain rail looking like brass, but I doubt it was real brass, more likely brassed.

When I was a kid I used brass "Rufflet" curtain rail with my Meccano. I NZ at least you would probably get as much as you need at a demolition yard, it won't be very straight.

The hobby shop is the place to go, here there is K&S Precision Metals USA. There is brass, aluminium, stainless steel, and sheets of tin plate and copper. You can get all sorts of sections of plastic.

Thanks for that link. They have an amazing selection of difficult to find materials and tools.
