I've seen pictures of Sun Dogs on the internet and in books but I've never seen one in real-life. I looked out my bedroom window yesterday and there were the Sun Dogs staring me in the face as large as life and twice as natural. Unfortunately I was forced to take the picture through a window with insect screen (and dirty at that) but I was pleased to get it nonetheless.img_0043.jpg

My wife was impressed too. She was all set and dressed to go out (wind-chill ~ -30°C) when I told her to rush right upstairs and look.

"Yes, very nice" she said. "Can I go now?"

It is a pity about the screen though. If I went downstairs and out the house, they disappeared behind the houses opposite from the lower vantage point and the screens aren't easily removable, especially in the dead of Winter.

(I had to buy an app from the iStore to get the pic off my iPod-Touch!)

Very interesting stuff and a good photo.

It is said that you learn something new every day, I had never heard of Sundogs before seeing this nor had I ever heard of Mississauga (let alone its location)!

That's two new things before lunch on a Sunday, Wikipedia is very useful as well!

"Ahh, Mississauga Ont, the Hockey province. "

When did the city of Mississauga get upgraded to become its own Province? (just kidding)

There sure is a lot of hockey in Mississauga but just as much % of population in most Ontario towns and many other provinces too (and in a lot of the USA as well, even warm California has an NHL team!)

A side note - I was told recently that Mississauga had more % of kids involved in soccer and cricket than any other city in North America and more % of population than many UK or other world cities - many tens of thousands of kids, in fact.

If you want to see some truly hockey mad folks just go see a game in Montreal Quebec when the Habs (Montreal team) are losing to the Leafs (Toronto Ont. team) or vice versa in Toronto.

We saw something similar in Zelienople Pa, 2 days in a row in the late afternoon. Never had a camera though.

Thanks for sharing the great picture.

Hockey is surprisingly popular in the UK.

My daughter is big fan of Nottingham Panthers and trained with the youth team (Nottingham Lions) for a while.

Not sure if she has seen the Cardiff Devils yet, but I bought her 'best in house' tickets to see them beat Coventry Blaze on 30 december

Neil

P.S. In my late teens I looked like one of the Hanson brothers from Slapshot (well all three actually) so I was more than usually aware of ice hockey... but I can't skate to save my life.

Jeff, I did put Ont after Mississauga meaning Mississauga IN the province of Ontario. and ( off topic now) I have seen Montreal Canadiennes V The Toronto Maple Leafs very intense. as was the old Quebec Nordiques v Montreal ( even more intense) sorry for going off topic Still a super pic tho. 👍

Cheers Raymond, no worries re the OT. I was only kidding about the province thing. You're quite right the photo from Bandersnatch was great, I enjoyed it too.

Thanks Neil, I did not realize hockey was popular at all in the UK. Great to hear your daughter's enjoying the sport too. Don't worry, I could never skate too well either. Made a heck of a big backstop/target in the net though, when I played as a kid.

Holy moly .... who let the cat out of the bag? I didn't think the Mississauga Separatists were ready to go public on the breakaway from the province.

Neil, Great that your daughter plays hockey, tell her to stick in. Hockey is one of [ if not thee ] fastest growing sport worldwide for females.
