Thread: Darwin's long-lost microscope |

Thanks for posting about the microscope. On a side note, for those interested in Darwin's writings about the origins of species, there is a fascinating two volume set of books by Dennis Hurd, M.A. titled " A Picture Book of Evolution " (1907). |

Consider using a cheap leaf gage. You can adjust the number of leaves easily to suit your issue for small parts on the opposite end of your vice jaws. |

What I find is ridiculous is that plywood is sold as 4' x 8' sheets, and dry lining is sold in the slightly smaller metric size. It means that if you layout first floor joists for sheathing, then the layout will come up long for sheathing the ceilings below with dry lining; so you have a considerable waste loss of material when installing a ceiling. |

Looks to me like a sheet metal machine for reducing the ends of stove pipes so that sections can fit into one another. |

Consider acquiring a smooth jaw vice of your choice and then carefully fill in the recessed screw holes in the jaws with Liquid Steel, JB Weld, or epoxy ? A simple solution. Edited By Mike E. on 28/04/2021 22:47:57 |

The email seems to come from Belgium as a lot of spam does. Possibly some homeless boy in an internet booth in Brussels just trying to get some lunch money. Mick Should be spending his money on food instead of an internet booth attempting to rob someone. |

The Magician and his wife, who's daughter brought in the music box were Harry and Rose Rengal. Harry was known as Ringo the Magician, for his act where seemingly solid rings would interlock into a chain. |

I notice currently there is an old Atlas 612 metal lathe on offer at a clearance price of less than £150.oo on the gandmtools.co.uk site. Worth a look. |
Thread: Taking a pair of wire cutters to a standard baseball cap |

Greatly entertaining topic!......
I feel compelled to mention that the shooting fraternity have an interesting version of the 'baseball' cap...it has an extra long peak with side flaps that can be unbuttoned and let down......it's indispensible when developing ones 'tunnel vision'......... Yes, a most entertaining topic. Basically this type of cap is used for Cross the Course and High Power competitions, and is most beneficial when shooting prone on the line to minimize getting hit in the face from the ejected empties when an adjacent competitor is a semi automatic rifle. Nothing is worse than having a hot shell casing take residence behind your ear, ha ha. |

...............................I wore one at the rifle range and tried to sight in a benchrest target rifle. Had to turn it backwards! ………………..……......... * Danny M * That surprises me. I've been wearing ball caps for many years and don't recall the bill being an issue, even with others in benchrest competition's. What type of rifle / sight combination are you using if I may ask ?

Thread: Coping with deafness |

Ask your neighbour if she has ever had her ears flushed out ? When I was in my middle 40's my hearing became an issue. I went to a consultant and after he had a look said with a smile, " I can give you new ears." He returned to the room with a huge syringe ( minus the needle) and a small bucket of warm water with a peroxide type solution and proceeded to jet out my ears. After a couple of minutes chunks of ancient hardened wax came flowing out. When he was finished I was amazed at the difference in what I could once again hear. When I got home I noticed that I had to turn down the volume on the television and I could once again hear the kettle boiling. I've had my ears flushed several times in the past 20 or so years now, and can tell you it would be worth having your neighbour consider it. Edited By Mike E. on 01/08/2020 16:57:31 |
