There's a special offer on at the moment to encourage new subscribers to try the magazines.

Go to the preview page for the next MEW and scroll to the bottom:

www.model-engineer.co.uk/editorial/page.asp?p=250

Existing subscribers who are renewing can always get a good deal by calling customer services and asking for one!

Hello Andy,

I assume that's for placing classified ads. It was a rule introduced to discourage scammers as it's easy to place an ad with a fake address and a mobile number, however I am giving it some thought, i think we need to be consistent across online and printed ads.

In the meantime, you can place ads using the online classifieds instead.

Neil I know you like to knock these MEW mags out quite quickly which may be why I have missed a few issues and number 2587 is just about to hit the shops as it says on the third linedevil

Hi Neil,

I'm interested in this offer, but the blue subscribe buttons are not working for me "Error - The page cannot be found".

Not a problem but is anyone else seeing the acute A in front of the £ sign in the 'Latest Forum Posts' panel? I'm up to date Firefox/Ubuntu.

You can get the offer working fine!

Thanks for the heads up Neil!

It does that if you use special characters, but it's appearing OK on the page here.

I will be gutted if this results in a surge of new readers for Popular Patchwork

Scammers were the reason i cancelled my land line as you cant tell whos calling unless you add caller ID to your package.

Mobile has caller ID and if no number i dont answer

Understood, Andrew. The rules were made before my time when most people still had a landline.

I have to get the OK before I can change them and there's a few other changes I want to make.

Just to confirm, the buttons now work for me, thanks Neil - although I did actually start a subscription following Richard's link yesterday. (Not for popular patchwork!) smiley

Cheers,
Ed.

I will browse Model Engineer in Tescos this morning and see how diverse the content issmiley Much as I like to look at steam driven models I wouldn't want a magazine that does nothing else wink and I'm hoping ME would be quite varied ?

I wouldn't judge ME (or any other magazine) on the contents of a single copy. They vary quite a lot between issues.

I'm not particularly interested in Model making as such. Even so I find ME valuable as a source of information. The adverts inform on what's available and where you can buy it and how much it will cost. It will tell you about clubs and events. More interest is likely to be found in the Editorial and Letters Page. Even though I rarely make anything in an ME article I always read them carefully. Much is to be learned from studying the drawings and photographs. The text will often describe 'ways and means'. The articles are also an insight into 'the art of the possible', which is particularly helpful to the beginner. I find the magazine entertaining too. The club listings used to be deadly dull and I never go anyway, but I read them just because Geoff Theasby makes me laugh.

In terms of content, MEW is closer to my hobby activities. I'm much more likely to make something described in MEW than ME. In the nature of things some issues are more interesting than others. It's not because the quality varies, rather it's because I'm not interested in everything. But, like ME, I buy MEW for information and education. After reading both magazines for a few years, I can confirm that the beginner fog I used to blunder about in has been much reduced!

I don't take Engineering in Miniature regularly. Partly because it seems to me to be very focussed on steam models, but also because ME and MEW keep me satiated. I recommend both.

Dave
