Contrate wheel

hello

Would anyone be able to help me. I have a carriage clock which has a contrate wheel that has had several teeth replaced over the years and is now beyond repair.

I have emailed several wheel cutters and even sent the wheel to some but they all say the same thing, the wheel is too small for them to be able to cut.

Does anyone know of anybody that could cut a smaller than normal contrate wheel?

Thanks in advance for your replies.

Cheryl

What size is the wheel and how many teeth?

Hi

There is a fairly big section of teeth missing but it looks to be 60 teeth and the wheel measures 13.7mm.

Thank you

Cheryl

If you post a picture with something to give it a sense of scale then the folks in here may find it easier

cheers

Constructive criticism alert.

Cheryl. That's quite a common remark. I found it quite tricky. Perhaps it's something the moderators might address. Few other fora that I subscribe to are this tricky.

Cheryl, to start an album go to the top (green) line of the page, and click on the camera/albums. Follow the instructions, and you can introduce photos straight off your computer, reduce the photo to about 640 x 480. After you have the photos in an album, you can click on the camera in the top of the reply box.

Hi Larry,

I don't know what device you use to access this forum, but when using Firefox web browser my screen looks something like this:

The upper, left part of the screenshot has an "Inbox" symbol that can be clicked. Is your screen totally different?

Thor

Sorry for going OT.

Cheryl,

There is a u-toob video by 'the village clockmaker' showing him making a similar peg spacing.

https://m.youtube.com/results?q=village%20clockmaker%20contrate%20wheel&sm=3

So it can be done. Perhaps enquire to a proper clock or watch maker if the clock is worth the ivestment. There is a watchmaker in Stamford, who would almost certainly do it for a price - but likely insanely expensive. I have not used their services, but am told their watches are very pricey!

I make things for tractors rather than this scale.

Cheryl,

Could try J Malcolm Wild for the replacement contrate wheel.

A search will find his website.
