Do you have patientaccess.com where you are? I have found it completely reliable for the last 3 years.

I usually ask them to input their 4-digit PIN number on their keypad so as to confirm their identity.

Usually does the trick.

Are you interested in the appearance of the finished product in terms of the damascus pattern?

I like "Erotic memories of the Bilston and Eccles model admiration society" but be careful how you spell it.

Thread: Why mostly manual cars in UK
05/12/2019 01:05:30

My first driving was on Ford/Ferguson tractors, then David Brown and Fordson Dexters. I was nearly 11 years old.

Synchromesh was not fitted. You changed down by stopping. Changing up was not smooth but could be done moving.

The army taught me to double declutch on an Antar, then a 3 ton Bedford RL, then a 16 ton Foden with a dodgy pre- select.

That was 50 years ago.

My Merc SLK with auto/preselect has shown me that progress is a good thing.

May I suggest that you post a video with sound?

It may help people to help you.

Thread: Ebay site changes for the worst
17/09/2019 16:13:26

I stopped bidding on ebay items about 4 years ago.

Haven't been sniped or shilled since!

Still use buy it now though.

Thread: O rings.
11/09/2019 14:13:56

I have just spent a frustrating morning doing the rounds of plumbers' merchants, Screwfix, BML Hayley, Charlie's and the like.

Searching for 2 sizes of replacement O rings for the spout of our kitchen mixer tap.

I have 2 kits in the workshop, containing around 1000 O rings - NBG!

Plumb Centre (Wolsely Ltd) told me they no longer stock O rings as there are too many non-standard sizes out there.

The rings are of surprisingly small cross section and unfortunately are too damaged and stretched for reliable measurement.

Hey ho, I will have to measure the seats and get some made - but where do I get less than 1000?

Yes, Neil.

But who's going to risk a mouthful of dirty water?

Thread: What mills have you had
21/07/2019 19:46:59

Centec 2B followed by a Boxford VM30. I think I will sell off the Boxford and go back to a shaper, since all the milling I have done for the last 4 years has been making stuff flat!

Thread: What lathes have you had?
21/07/2019 19:41:54

I started out with a Perris. That lasted a year and was replaced by an ML10.

The ML10 was well-worn and not up to what I wanted, so an ML7 came into the workshop.

Then I was offered a Chipmaster (one of the lathes that I had trained on) and that is still my workhorse.

Thread: A Very Nice Freebie

I see that you are missing one item and - sorry - this makes your set absolutely worthless.

You may send them to me for responsible disposal.

Thread: Bench pillar drill or floor standing pillar drill
28/05/2019 20:41:23

+1 for floor standing drill. My Qualters & Smith was too big for the workshop, so I put it in the garage.

Logically, cars are painted and can stand a bit of weather.

Thread: What do YOU call it?

Swarfing.

Thread: Harrison's Equipment
17/05/2019 23:27:35

Why is it assumed that Harrison's period was simpler, less stressed and placid?

Worry about the Goddam Yanks, the price of tea, Dr Johnson's English dictionary, the French Revolution, syphilis, slavery, war, etc. etc. etc.

Distractions enough for you?

Thread: Silvering brass

The wax was Rennaissance Wax - otherwise known as Renwax.

Very useful stuff.

Thread: Materials available near Nantwich
28/04/2019 18:31:10

I've put some photos in an album.

Dagfields Crafts & Antiques is near Nantwich, Postcode CW5 7LG. The stall is on the back wall of Unit 6.

The prices seem OK and there is a helluva range of materials and sizes.

I have no axe to grind in this, simply pointing out a source.

Thread: Dialect expressions
13/04/2019 20:17:47

Twos up on your dout - I say, old chap, might I prevail upon you for a puff on the dog end of your cigarette?

You'll make me boke - I am in danger of vomiting if you continue.

It's gey dreich - the weather is wet cold and breezy.

Stop plittering! - Desist from indecisively toying with that (food, tools, work etc.)

Charlie's deid - pardon me miss, but your petticoat is showing.

Stop that or I'll malafooster ye! - If you do not desist, I will physically chastise you.

All from Lallans Scots.
