Acquiring a wedge type quick change toolpost

Any idea where you can purchase a wedge type quick change toolpost in uk other than purchasing from the states & paying import duties

The trouble with the cheap ones on the bay is that the post is aluminium. In time you'll get problems with wear. The steel ones don't seem to be much cheaper than Arceurotrade & as they come from the US, it's highly likely you'll get stung for import duty, making it more expensive.

I've never had anything get through from the US without having to pay duty, and have never had to pay it from China. Just remind me, which is our NATO ally?

Theoretically yes. Depends on who you listen to, what you see, what your experience is with the quality of the product you have in hand, your budget. Practically, we sell both in equal measure, when you compare 100/200 piston type with 111/222 wedge type. Industry has been buying the 100/200 piston types for as long as we have been selling these, and we have been selling the piston type for longer than we have the wedge type. If it is good enough for them, then it should be good enough for most... subject to quality...

We are still happy to sell the wedge types too.

I didn't realise that Arc Eurotrade sold the wedge type at such good prices. Otherwise I may well have purchased them!

I did buy via (Ebay) a couple of sets from the original manufacturer, that supplied Myford. These are excellent, as one would expect. I cannot see any reason at all to favour one system over the other. What I can say is that I have seen some poorly executed piston types. It all really comes down to the quality of the item, be it wedge or piston activated.

The Chronos ones aren't the wedge type as specifically requested by the OP.

It's my birthday on Monday and I have my Arc "wish list" loaded with my birthday present to me - a wedgie and a couple of holders to get me going. I already have the Chronos type, but find it fiddly and the tool holders are complicated to make oneself, though I have incorporated one into my knurling tool.

Arc Eurotrade is a reasonable price but it works out cheaper from the states as a package with 5 holders even with the import tax keeping a lookout at the moment

Buying QCTP with set of 5 holders not necessarily a good idea some of the holders are not particularly useful I found. Unless you can get it with 5 standard tool holders.

Did you also add VAT as well as import duty? Plus there will be the post office handling fee of about £8 for collecting it
