No, but would you be interested in a StubBall(TM)(C) authentic hardened steel ball bearing, careful selected from a broken ball race it will give you years of pleasure and be the seed of a marvellous lifelong collecting habit for only $55.

The StubShelf(TM)(C)(R) is only $65, is lovingly crafted from specially hand-selected and finished MDF with several holes in it.

Stub accepts all major credit cards and paypal...

TBH, For all the clever design they don't follow the key rule for making tops - as much weight at the circumference as possible.

A great idea for Christmas. I have some brass bar that will be excellent for this.

No G-code required, do it by hand and a "good eye".

If you need a pattern for the 'foreverspin'

This one, in Zinc, looks "fit for purse" devil

Edit: I do wish ebay wouldn't put all that nonsense in the URL ... This shortened version should suffice:

My apologies, Clive ... I've just noticed that there are alternative videos !!

[also that my reference point actually shows him picking it up, not spinning it]

For my penance, here is a frame-grab showing the start of spin-up:

Having looked at some of the offerings in the 'grand-illusions' series I thought that this top with its additions was quite fascinating.

Unfortunately it appears that you have to suffer the ad prior to the video.

Thanks Michael, It appears much smaller than I thought from the pics. A simple project i think and possible mass production for the whole family to play with.

I might have a go if I can find a suitable piece of metal in the junk box. maybe a composite one with a brass outer ring and an alloy piece with a stainless steel spindle.

Clive,

Check the ebay link that I posted last night

... the photos include one of their version sitting upon a dimensioned drawing.

Ha,

I came across the Grand Illusions site about a week ago. Why isn't Tim on mainstream TV? He is far and away the best presenter I have seen in a long time.

Well, true, but working out how to generate the code is much more interesting than twiddling handwheels to remove all that metal.

Regarding the ebay version, interesting that it seems to cost 99p whereas the "foreverspin" comes in at $38 for the cheapest up to $195 for the tungsten version. Mind you, they won't be making the latter on your average CNC lathe.
