Hi all,

I know this could be a bit agricultural, but I have a need on a job for a smaller than usual angle grinder. One with a disc diameter of around 70mm .Has anyone come across such a thing, something fairly cheap would do fine .

Thanks

If you can get in with a straight rather than angle grinder, and have an air supply, try doing a search for air cutoff saw, such as this one from Machine Mart, though there are many cheaper ones available off ebay.

A 4'' with a worn down disc? Dremels are at the other end of the spectrum? How about a grinder on a flxible power drive, similar but larger than those supplied with dremels. Similar to those used that clean up and polish engine ports/heads, etc? An air tool is most likely the easiest option, if not so quiet, for your purpose?

For what purpose, btw. Might help to know?

I would second that my experience of proxxon has been quite positive. I don't own this particular model but have purchased a multi tool drill and a compound table in the past. Build quality was quite exceptional, this looks so similar to the multi tool that i would expect the same experience.

Alternatively, thinking outside the box slightly, you can get carbide tipped blades for oscillating multitools

What are you using it for ? Cutting, grinding, flapwheel, sander.

Air tools would be cheapest option if you have air, they do straight and angled ones. Or if the work is not too large and can be taken to the tool and you are not cutting then some of the RoLoc type fittings in a pillar drill work well, I use them quite a bit.

Try looking for a "angle die grinder" such as this, or possibly just a "die grinder" if you don't really need the angle head. They are available as air or electric.

I have a similar model to this, essentailly a 3/4 size angle grinder:

It's nothing like a an angle grinder as it runs vastly more smoothly and is a pelasure to use rather than a burden. It is ideal for things like cutting rusted bolts in restricted places.

Thanks for all the suggestions, that 2" PCL air operated grinder from machine mart looks really neat and compact.

It might be just what I m looking for.

Neil, the Dremel unit is cool i ll take a look the next time I m at a tool shop.

I ll be mainly using it for cutting in tight spaces, its mainly maintenance/repair work I do so a compact unit would  make the awkward jobs a bit easier.

That's actually the model I have, they just have given it a slightly different name, but not number. It is cute

Bosch do a 10.8V cordless angle grinder which has a 76mm dia disc. It is quite expensive at around £90 plus a battery.

Bosch own Dremel, the two products may have a lot in common!
