Require 2.5 diopter safety glasses

87 forum posts | Hi All I have just had my Cater acts done the last one a week Saturday the result for long range is brilliant at 67 and not needing glasses for driving is wonderful. The problem I now have is reading and working in the workshop. I have bought a cheap pair of Asda 2.5 reading glasses and they work well but they are not safety glasses. I have looked on "tintinet" and there seems to be mainly Bi Focal safety glasses with a couple of full lens types. My question is what is other peoples experience. Peter |

As mentioned get yourself a face shield if you don't want to fork out for prescription glasses... just had a look in Machine Mart catalogue... Better than not having anything... George |

87 forum posts | Thanks everybody I already use a face shield for grinding but i prefer glasses for machine and bench work. I think I will try a pair of off the shelf 2.5 bi focal safety glasses the Bolle or 3 m seem to be good I already have several pairs of the Bolle normal type spread around the shop and find them excellent. At least they will be a lot cheaper than prescription and if they work out maybe prescription will be worth while. Thanks everyone Peter |

For work a few years ago I bought prescription safety glasses from my optician. I bought some about 8 years ago, bifocal and tempered glass (couldn't have plastic as they won't stand up to splatter from brazing). The bifocal is medium-range and short-range, as I don't need long-distance vision in the workshop. They were about 1/2 the price of normal spectacles as they were classed as 'work-wear'. My usual spectacles last about 2 years, but I haven't even managed to put a scratch on these yet. Bob Unitt
