344 forum posts | I have a small and quite ancient orchard with the usual modern varieties of apple, plum and pear but there are also still a few very old trees that fruit quite well. Nobody has really been able to identify them although there's been plenty of guesses.
PS Clive, how big is a baseball? |

940 forum posts 30 photos | Recently I had an involuntary upgrade to W10 from Windows 7, missed the upgrade deselection. As I hadn't wanted to upgrade at the time I was somewhat peeved by this but decided to give it a go as I could always recover to W7 should I want to. Well I gave it a go and guess what I have decided to stick with it!! All the key progs I had under W7 were kept and whats more they are all working fine. The only prog that didn't work was a hardware analysis prog called Speccy; its vital and according to the W10 forum can be reloaded if required. So far I am quite happy that the upgrade happened and have not had any problems, it would appear to be as stable as W7 and faster on boot up not that W7 was particularly slow. My good lady ran the upgrade on her Toshiba laptop, from W8-1, and this went smoothly and all her progs work fine as well. Overall everything that worked under W7 or W8-1 is still working and both systems seem to be stable and have no thrown up any glitches, yet. If it all goes pear shaped I have a disc copy of both systems so that they can be restored to their original status if required.

842 forum posts 56 photos | I hope to never find Windows 10. Had a Macbook air from my old employer, but had to turn it back in. Expect to purchase another when starting next employment gig. I seem to have survived my lifetime in the computer field with almost zero exposure to Microsoft Windows - why would I change that? Each to their own, but of the 10 or so "desktop" computers I have here, they are either Apple or Linux. Throw in a dozen or two Arduinos and... Just my thoughts... John |

Re my post about the Windows live mail re-loading emails from the deleted file, TalkTalk found that one of the Servers was faulty and has now replaced it so all is well again. Clive I had something similar on my Linux PC running Thunderbird Mail, I'm with Sky but the mail server is Yahoo, I logged on last year and the server proceeded to download every email I had ever received, it took about an hour, Yahoo didn't want to know and said it must be my PC at fault, I logged into the server and deleted everything I could find in the hope that it doesn't happen again. .... So far I am quite happy that the upgrade happened and have not had any problems, it would appear to be as stable as W7 and faster on boot up not that W7 was particularly slow. ... Martin Hi Martin, For many people the issue isn't that W10 is unstable, it is the privacy issues it introduces. There's plenty on the web about these concerns, this article for example. It is not made obvious or easy during installation how to turn the privacy leaks off, or even that W10 is going to share some of your information and facilities unless you explicitly tell it not to. After installing W10 I spent a lot of time wading through various settings undoing the damage. That's because I thought the default settings were unacceptable, particularly as the upgrade deliberately contravened some of my W7 security settings. You may not share my concerns, but if what I'm saying is news to you it might be advantageous to do more research before making your mind up. This article seems to cover the ground if you want to know what to switch off. Regards, Dave Edited By SillyOldDuffer on 19/04/2016 21:18:59 Edited By SillyOldDuffer on 19/04/2016 21:20:06 |
