Not really interested in re-building an MGB Peter G. Shaw
Nor me. If I wanted to read articles about rebuilding cars, I would buy 'Practical Classics' or something like that. As the magazine title is 'Model Engineers' Workshop', I would prefer to read articles more linked to model engineers' workshops

Yet I looked at the picture of the car raised on farm jacks bolted to hub adapters, and wondered why I hadn't thought of doing that. The important part of the MEW title is workshop, not Model Engineer. If the magazine hadn't grown out of Model Engineer, it would have had a far more appropriate title. Something like Workshop Tools & Techniques |

213 forum posts 54 photos | Mine arrived today and I was pleased to see that an article I submitted some time ago-Installing a Magnetic DRO System to a Mini-Lathe, has been printed in it. In my explanation of why I had used components from EMS-I and M-DRO, I have stated that the EMS-I reader head is about 25% smaller than the M-DRO reader head, therefore making it suitable to fit on the Cross slide. This was correct at time of writing, but It is worth mentioning to anyone interested, that, in the same issue, M-DRO are advertising their Reader Heads and they now have one listed as EHM Series Mini Head, which is the same size as that I used from EMS-I Keith. |

Frances IoM | 11/01/2021 15:53:12 |
1395 forum posts 30 photos | No idea re sacking - but MTM with much of its news-stand sales lost (eg my local W H Smiths takes 1 copy of ME + MEW whereas it was probably 10 prior to lockdown) must be in significant difficulties as a subscription only model has generally failed for other once thriving publications deprived of advertising revenue. The lockdown is very unlikely to be gone before next summer at earliest + I suspect MEW might well be one of the casualties Edited By Frances IoM on 11/01/2021 15:53:48 Edited By Frances IoM on 11/01/2021 16:17:30 |

Beth recently returned after an extended break, I know she's being doing a lot of catching up. Perhaps you had best send her a reminder? Neil |

Losing all our overseas distribution was a blow, but fortunately it did get sorted. I think we have lost about seven titles, although Model Boats was resurrected after a few month's break. Advertising has recovered somewhat, the problem was not that people weren't buying model engineering goods, it was that they were cleaning out the suppliers who couldn't restock fast enough due to (ongoing, but improving) delays in receiving stock from overseas. Subs renewals are what will keep the magazines going. Neil

1395 forum posts 30 photos | I personally will not renew a sub until I have seen issue 300 delivered as I pointed out to you the faulty mechanism in the subs dept that did not take account of the slipped publication but sent me two warnings that the 10th issue (out of 13 prepaid) would be the last - this I pointed to you both privately + on here - to Beth, who cannot add 13 to the initial subscription #, and seems to be the only employee dealing with such matters - now obviously it could be lost in a mailbag in deepest Surrey but the local post seems to be working again - even a bulky post from IoM arrived within the usual 5 days.
ETA - my comments about relying on subs only model were based on a couple of computing + electronics machines, each highly regarded in their fields. Subscribers die - without seeing mags on news-stands new readers don't become acquainted - hence subs work for a year or two then things start to drop off - fewer paid-for articles generated and old subs may make comments about regurgitated content. ![]() 25215 forum posts 3105 photos 1 articles | Frances I did post on the 6th Dec and say that from the info that I can access your subs will run out with issue 303 "Frances your subs look to be showing 303 as last one so should be no worries there but I only have limited access to what is a hard page to decipher subscriptions page." Probably could have told you that earlier but your reluctance to give away much in the way of detail made it impossible to look you up earlier. |

1395 forum posts 30 photos | Jason - I sent full details to both Neil + Beth - surely that should have been sufficient? - Not sure what detail I should have added - my birth date ? as most spamming companies seem keen to get this.
ETA
As I said above it might turn up tomorrow - it used to arrive on the Weds prior to the Friday appearance in Smiths Edited By Frances IoM on 11/01/2021 19:55:11 |

1 forum posts | Hi All, my first post, I have been reading the forum for quite awhile now. I finally moved to subscribing to MEW as the news agent which I have been buying the magazine for over twenty years now does not receive the magazine. So lets see how I go. Covid motivation Thank you for the effort that members go too to post their hard work. Adrian (Aust)
